While they are not interchangeable, they are quite close in burning rate. Most loading manuals usually show data for one or the other. Rarely, a manual will show both. The Nosler No. 5 shows a maximums for both H-4350 and IMR-4350 with their 165 gr bullet for the 30-06 as 57.5 for H-4350 and 57.0 for IMR-4350 with a 40 fps advantage going to the H-4350. But the same manual shows both for the 284 Win with a 160 gr bullet with a maximum load of only 48.5 gr for IMR-4350 for 2636 fps, while the H-4350 shows 51.5 gr for 2689 fps. While the difference is only 53 fps, they show a full 3.0 gr higher maximum for H-4350. Since the maximum loads seem to vary quite a bit by cartridge, it is prudent to start low and work up slowly using data from a trusted source. By the way, Accurate XMR-4350 is also very close to the other 4350's in burning rate, if you want to really confuse yourself! killpc

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

I have heard it put a bit more simplistically: you can use IMR-4350 data to load Hodgdon 4350, but not the inverse.

And I had a ballistician from Accurate tell me several years ago that their AA 4350 was one grain slower than IMR-4350. It was exactly the same prepartation, but Accurate used nitroglycerine instead of nitrocellulose... My subsequent handloading experience bore this out.

But having said all that, the old adage of starting low and working up is the best advice you will ever get!!

They are for STARTING LOADS! But once you get to a higher load level, you will probably find that the max loads are not exactly the same......
