Favorite breed of horse for hunting.
CLL,
The only reason Apps were so popular with native americans is they were the only breed that the indians could run down on foot and catch ....

It's been a little while since I worked horses for a living, but I have several favorites. My number one was a very large quarter Dun, that was the meanest SOB I've ever met. Also the smartest. Very square built, rough as a cob, but could go all day, faster uphill than level. Had to get rid of him, because he was opening gates and killing calves. My next favorite was a Welsh/Quarter cross who wasn't much for frame, but was smooth and licky split fast. Smarter than I am, and I could go to sleep, and he'd take me to where we were going, if he'd been there before.

My last ride was actually a customer's. Little Morgan named "Chips", who would do anything you told him to do. Always learned and remembered things, the first time you told him.

I miss horses. You guys are making me want another one.

First time I have dropped in here and would have skipped over it again if I hadn't seen that 120 had been in. The 2 horses I remeber most fondly were a Morgan/Quarter cross named Pepper( nice little cutting horse,just point out which cow and stay out of his way,no humans needed thankyou,and a natural) and the other was a Morgan/Arabian cross. She didn't have any special training but remembered everything she had ever been shown. She was also a natural babysitter for rookie riders but like me had no tolerance for idiots! As for another horse,remember what I said on the BO board about horses 120, The landbound version of a boat(a hole in the water into which one pours money). Well at least a horse will love you back and one can eat it if need be. derf

I have never ceased to wonder at how fragile horses are. It seems like you just look at them and they get injured and/or sick, and die. And usually after sinking a second mortgage on the house in vet bills on them.

We used to raise, train and sell show horses. I've seen horses that would've won a bunch of shows loaded into the back of a rendering truck plenty of times.

Hello;
A horses Life is a tentative thing, just like ours. I read recently, can't remember his name, about a multi-million dollar race horse stallion. He was sold to Japan and ended up at slaughter.
