Looks like a nice pair. Like the uniform fringe.
I wonder how they'll look with elk blood smeared across them. I better stick with darker ones.

Good luck selling them.

Fear not. I'm gonna list a couple dark pairs in the next few days. Smiler It's too embarrassing to mention how many pairs I have.

Yeah, these really are as good as basket stamped chinks get.

Will,
Have you tried making a pair out of elphant hide yet? That is something I'm considering.

Are chinks the chaps you got in first grade and couldn't part with them. The cowboys I know wear shotgun chaps.I thought chinks were for hay haulers and horseshoers. Could be wrong.I ain't to modern.

I like shotgun chaps in the colder months. But chinks are so much cooler during the warm weather.

So it has nothing to do with Kindergarden and everything to do with the weather.

The vast majority of working cowboys out here wear chinks. Very few wear shotguns. Granted, we seem to wear them a little longer out here looking at other pictures I've seen posted. However, I feed a fair amount of cattle in west Texas feedlots and run some on wheat pasture in the panhandle and long chaps with rings and tie strings everywhere seems to be the "thing" in that part of the world. With the people I deal with, I think it has to do with tradition and function within the working cowboy community of a given geographical area just like the way a saddle is built or dally versus hard and fast etc.

I have both, but wear the chinks most often. Chinks are nice, when you can get away with them. I, for one, find picking my leg up to the stirrup, a lot easier wearing chinks. Like Sevenxbjt said, geographic area has a lot to do with it. Some places, like parts of Texas, have pretty darn serious thorns everywhere, and you want as much protection as you can get. In South LA, blackberry briars are about as tough as our brush gets, so chinks work out just fine, until it gets cold.

I like the chinks even wear them to show in. They aren't so hot nor as confining feeling. Mine are a bit longer than some, they will pretty well cover to the top of the boots when mounted.

I have batwings, shotguns and chinks..I wear the chinks more than anything in Idaho but the heavy batwings and shotguns are best in the Texas Big Bend where every plant has thorns. Chinks with long fringe keep the snow off your boots and that helps keep your feet warm..

There is a purpose for chap design, its not a fashion show or I like one better than another, it's the right pair for the job at hand.

Other types are for cutting horse competition, for riding saddle broncs and barebacks and they are for a specific reason also..

They are cowboy gear and each type serves a purpose.
