I am now a Horse Person... Sorta.
My Mother in Law bought a minature horse, a pregnant female, and called the wife to ask if we would keep it on our place for her.

My wife was on the phone with her and looked at me in sorta of a shock, shocker and told me what she was asking, and I said sure. [I am tight with my Mother in Law, I get along with her better than her 5 daughters Eeker]

So we went to get it today. We had an ATV trailer that has "walls" made of hog wire.

We did have a bit of a rodeo getting her "roped" and into the trailer. But once in the trailer she calmed down a bit. I rode with her in the trailer for about 20 miles or so and she did fine and we bonded pretty good, I fed her some carrots while en route. She actually did real good in the trailer, and I was not injured or Killed. Cool

Nor did I have to hurt her. horse [Sorry could not resist]

Once on our place we put her in what we call the barn pasture, and she remained calm, and was very friendly even to my Stray Dog...

She seems to like the Dog...

She met the 4 Llamas and the 5 Burros through the fence and every thing seemed to go OK.

We will keep her seperate for a few days and gradually put her with the others, being sure they all get along...

So I am now a Horse person Sorta... "Sorta" because I do not actually own it, and it is not a "real" horse.

But she seems sweet, and the new baby colt due in November we were told should be fun.

Congrats on joining our world. I will caution you to make sure that it remains respectful. People have a tendency to take it too easy on minis cause they are small and cute. They can become lil monsters. I know a bunch of farriers who wont touch the lil suckers.

Thanks for the info.

We do maintain a "tight ship" on our animals, and do not allow them to be biters, kickers etc.

Well an update is in order.

Her name is Penny, so I call her Penny Pony.

She is still friendly with me, but she is kinda "bighty" toward everybody else, especially Rusty the Wonder Dog.

I think that might be because she is PG, as the burros were the same way, till they had their babies...

My boss has 11 equines total, 8 horses and 3 mules and with the exception of one, about 90% of the time I would like to shoot the others.

They are interesting creatures at times and at others they are a pure pain. I just never have been a horse person.

Someone I know, once referred to Miniature horses as "lawn ornaments". Big Grin Only equine you can truck around in a station wagon. Point that out cause I once went to a mixed breed show and some guy drove up with a couple in the back of his station wagon. From my perspective, Make good bear bait, at least according to the local Grizzlies. Friend moved to a quarter near by and had a Grizz sitting on her sewer pump out. Fish cop suggested to her, you might not want to raise Minnies around here. Wink

Miniatures, like donkeys, make great coyote bait........well unless they are mowing your lawn.

I did have a friend that had a broke team of the little devils and they were cute as a pet pig.

Just kidding on the bait thing. LOL
