old4x4Acceptable big bore accuracy
What would all of you consider acceptable accuracy from a big bore rifle? In my case it's a 416 Rem Mag in a Ruger #1. At 100 yds, I can group 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" consistantly. Since I'm used to smaller calibers and better accuracy and this is my first big bore, I'm not sure if I should try for tighter groups than this or just be content. 200 yds is my personal max distance

MingbogoI don't have an exact answer for your question. However, my 45-70 in a stainless Ruger No 1 shoots a 1.5 in 3 shot group consistently with Remington 405 grain at around 2100 fps. Of course, this is only possible for me with a Leupold scope. Later. Ming

John RicksLook at my site below, I have several 416 Rem targets shot with bolt action rifles.
Anything 1-1/2" inches or less out of a No. 1 is outstanding accuracy!!!

Shawn460I routinely get 1-1.25" 3 shot groups out of my 460 Wby. Personally, I am happy with anything under 2" at 100 yds from a "very" hard recoiling rifle. For regular hunting rifles, I like to see sub 1" groups.
