CZ 458 Lott?
CZ 458 Lott?
What are your opinions on these guns? How is quality and accuracy overall? I have heard a multitude of problems exist and then again great things abouut them. Thank you!

action_can_doFunny you should ask. I just shot mine today for the very first time. They have a lot of the features that Dangerous Game hunters want (big internal magazine, controlled feed, ect.) but my understanding is they are kinda like what Colt 1911s were in the 70s and 80s. You buy them with the understanding that they come needing some work to make them as reliable as they should be. My rifle had some feeding issues. Nothing terrible, but enough that if I was going to use it for DGH, I would have it worked on. Even if you include the necessary work needed to be done on them, price wise they are a real bargain, and that's probably why they are so popular.

jeffeossohave it bedded, and check the feeding .. i prefer to bob the barrel to 23" ..
accurate, fair safety, should come from the factory bedded though..
great guns for the money
Do the newer ones come with crossbolts? How can you tell?
just sold my Safari Lott, it was factory cross bolted. Very nice gun, fed fine shot really well. Only thing was that the factory open sights were low, way low. That is minor, overall very good.

DemonicalIf the stock has crossbolts they will be evident. Some simply have the metal crossbolt head left exposed, and some have them recessed, then covered with some kind of cap, wood, plastic disc, whatever...
I think all the new production CZ-550's in the .375 and up cals have crossbolts as standard build.

Did you ever mount a scope? "low, way low" open sites is a sign of the bent barrel problem. The clincher is when you mount a scope it is imposable to get enough elevation on the scope to zero the gun. Three examples reported, that I read about - here by AR members. I suspect others who never mounted a scope, just use 200 or 300 yard leaf had same problem. I used the 300 yard leaf then when I tried to mount a scope found found I needed special "adjustable" rings to get it sited.
As for opinions on the CZ550, I have three and might make it 4 some day. I love the guns, but be prepared for issues. You can get them fixed, but; be prepared.

ozhunterA friend bought a big CZ in 458Win and had it re bored to LOTT.
It feeds well and Shoots well but the stock split within fifty rounds.
Re Bed and Pin is my advice along with the usual rule "make sure all stock screws are tight prior to shooting".
fourbore, yes mounted a scope. Didn't seem to be an issue.

Tapper2I had one in .416 Rigby that had a bad bent barrel problem. Sent it back and it was repaired. It shot well after that. Traded it for a RSM and was much happier. I have a CZ550 in .458 Lott if someone want's one as I am building a Lott on a Montana action, I don't need two Lott's.......Tom

Michael RobinsonFor me any factory rifle is a starting point only.
The CZ 550 in any caliber is a fine place to start.

Heck, even my 9.3 X 62 (see sig line) has dual crossbolts, as well as my Lott!

funny you should ask this question, i have asked the excat same question on two other forums within the last month. Out of the 50 odd replies i have got back probably about half of those said "great rifle for the price but be prepared to maybe have to do some work on it to get it just right" a couple people told me horror stories. Generally however the feed back was good.
