<BMG>Any news/reports on the Olympic Arms UltraMag actions?
Has anyone heard any news on the Olympic Arms UltraMag actions? Are they rough or 'clean' in appearance & function? Availability? I believe their boltface is .725" and the MAX OAL of the rounds can be 3.85". Just curious ;-)

John RicksYou are right on all three counts. But they do have a M70 type safety and a Timney trigger.
Bolt diameter, not bolt face.
They are a little rough, can be polished up.

RobgunbuilderI talked to them and while the bolt diameter is very appealing for building something really nasty, the wait is more than I can stand. 6 mo or so they quoted me.-Rob

John RicksThere is a photo of one on my site, address below, go to the "Actions" page.
Last time I phoned Olympic arms (about a mounth ago) they said one week for the Ultra Mag action. Did not order it, the customer opted for a CZ550. I have one in the shop reserved for a special project (for me, if I can ever get the time!)

matt salmJohn Ricks,
Is it just me or do the CZ and the Olympic action look like the same manufacture? I realize the different features, but to me the body looks identical----just poorer finish on the Oly. What are the price differences on the two?

John RicksBRNO 602, CZ550, Bauska, Ultra Mag are all similar, methinks the Bauska and Ultra Mag be resonable facsimiles. However, CZ550 is finished very well and has a very different trigger/safety/bolt stop etc. than the Ultra Mag. Ultra Mag is the simpler and is built rugged, Mauser like, but has the M70 type three position safety and a adjustable Timney trigger. The Ultra Mag takes some final hand finishing and polishing, but may be made into a nice DGR. I think the Ultra Mag is around $500, the CZ550 about $550 to $600, don't have the catalogs in front of me at the moment.
