For my money I would take the .416 Rigby because of the ballistics. The .416 has the trajectory of the .375 and hits like the .458.

So many people don,t load the Lott right for most hunting and therefore there is a great lack of knowledge about it,s capabilities with the 350 gr bullet ..........All I can say is it is an amazing killer .....And it isn,t any different in the recoil than a 416 Rigby ,Remington or Ruger .Tho it does have the potential to recoil less than the Rigby .... And it shoots nearly as flat ....

Or to put it another way , it shoots almost as flat as a 375, kicks like a 416 and kills like a 470 ,,,,, There now were gettin somewhere ....

The only problem with using a 350 grain bullet in the Lott is you have to give up so much sectional density. The sectional density of a 350 grain .458 bullet is only .238 whereas the sectional density of a 350 grain .416 bullet is .289. We can't change the laws of physics. That .416 bullet is going to out-perform that .458 bullet every time. Just my two cents.

Dave , how in the world can it be construed that the 416 out preforms the 458 .. What is the definition of large caliber rifle performance .. . Instantaneously dead , upside down animals . And the Lott does that The 416 usually does also .....But the 458 just does ... I don,t care if it,s sec dense is .238 . I havn,t ever recovered one from game, so I guess it has plenty enough sec .dense. ........ And it holds more bullets ...
