Dave_TWhich rifle for .375 and .458 Lott?
I'm trying to decide between these rifles for a .375 H&H and a .458 Lott:
- Win 70 Safari Express (Lott is coming in Q1 '04)
- CZ 550 Magnum (Lott is coming in Q1 '04)
- Ruger RSM
Can anyone give me pros and cons of each?
Thanks for any help!
Dave

UrodojiSpend the money and go with the RSM. You'll be glad you did.

475GuyDude
Get the Ruger RSM Mk II in both. I have several Rugers from 375 H&H to 458 and they shoot great. Of course, the complaints made by some is that they are trim packages. But do you want trim stocks and light weight for your big boomers? The 375 hardly kicks at all as it is properly balanced caliber/weight rifle. The Lott does KICK and the way I have lessened the recoil felt is to put tungsten rods in the butt and in the fore-arm and to put a slightly thicker pad on mine. The rods weight 1 1/2# and the capacity on the 375 is 4+1 and Lott is 3+1. As somebody else has posted previously, you are buying a complete package with a rib, leaf sights and GREAT WOOD for the price.

Okay... the first quesion you HAVE to ask yourself is "what LOP do i NEED" and if you don't know, go find a good gunsmith to help you measure that
secondly, the ruger is 2 times the price of the CZ's.... and the CZ retain GREAT resale....
So, my suggestion is to buy both in CZ and american stocks... shoot them awhile, sell the one that shoots worse (or you shoot worse (grin)) and replace it with the ruger.... afterawhile, sell the otherone, if the ruger shoots "better" and see.
so, buy both in CZ in january.... shoot the crap out of them, and then decide if DOUBLE the price is a good idea

AtkinsonI like the Ruger, but the CZ of late sure are nice, they have really cleaned them up and for the first time I am going to recommend the CZ and it needs some work, but Jim brockman can fix one up really nice for what you would pay for a Ruger...and the CZ literally holds a bucket full of ammo in any caliber, I like that.

I forgot mention that the followers on each rifle is different and are caliber specific in each rifle. Also, the feed rails are caliber specific. Sorry about the Spam Blocker but it keeps out all riff-raff as they know I won't allow them access to my account.

Dave_TRay,
I'm interested - what things need to be done to the CZs? So, Jim Brockman specializes in the CZs and does good work?
Thanks again,
Dave

Dave_TBy the way, what's the difference in the Win M70 Safari Express and one I've heard of called the Super Express? Is the Safari Express not desirable? What are the flaws of the Safari Express?
Thanks,
Dave

bwanajcjspecific model choices aside which will you get more use out of? sure you look cool shooting whitetail with a .416 but it tends to be in bad taste! (trust me on this one) chances are with bullet choices and weights you'll get more use out of the .375 and not so many eyebrows when you pull it out in deer camp!!!!!!!!!!!!

jeffeossoSuper Express is the one I have, which is the new -pre-64 action.. it's has less drop, and is not really suitable for iron sights (stock that is) it does NOT have a barrel lug, rather a goofy 12 or 14 gauge steel plates that goes under the receiver lug and back up the stock, to work the same. Funny, the stock DOES have inletting FOR a barrel lug.
the safari express has better sights, a MUCH better stock, one piece bottom metal that LOOKS much better, a barrel lug, and more drop for sights.
the actions and barrels, other than add ons, are identical.
hmm, no one has ever said jack to me about using 40+ caliber rifles on deer and hogs... or exotics ether... once they see that there is NO bloodshot meat, that I can take a shouldershot and not have to throw a whole roast into the "chilli meat" bag... and if they see the effect on game... sorta like taking a 45/70..
besides, with a 375 or a 416, i usually have the smallest bore gun, with my bunch, which ranges from 358's to 577 nitros
