picked up a neat shotgun at the gunshow in Fredericksburg last weekend... its a 32 gauge rifled barrel Harrington & Richardson ... the guy I got it from had no idea what it was, and I got it and 2 boxes of fiochhi shotshells for $135... after looking on the internet, I find it was sold as a "cap-chur" gun.. intended to use a .22 rimfire blank and adapter to shoot a dart..... its got adjustable rear sights, and after I talked with Palmer's Cap-chur in Georgia, they told me what I have... gun ususally sells for about 4-500$, so I made a buy... not sure of the chamber length, so it's gonna be a while before I shoot it..I've got the blank firing adapter and a catalogue coming in the mail..... i'll have it at the Mason Tx gunshow this next weekend, April 2, 3rs if anybody wants to see it...

IIRC it is used to shoot tranquilizing darts into animals.

not only to tranqualize, but to give medication to a sick or injured animal without having to pen it up.... i talked to the really nice people at Palmer CAp-Chur in georgia, and she told me about doing a "drive-by" on a bull that has foot rot...the game biologist that i know uses a CO2 powered rifle....

I had one of these & know of several here in NZ as there was a lot of Wild Deer recover for Deer farms back in the day .

One was (I think) rechambered to 50/90, but I used 32ga brass shot Gun shells, it was not to good with the long heavy bullets as I think it has a slow twist, but great fun with RB & lighter slugs !

They use different power loads for different range with the dart. I believe this one originally used a reusable dart that has a tuft of yarn like material at rear to help seal bore and stabilize the dart and the body was aluminum. The dart guns have really evolved over the years and the new ones use compressed air to propel the darts. I think yours was one of the original designs used in the US.

and used one in the late 50's and early 60's to capture wild cattle. It was the pistol version.
Two dart sizes were provided one about 6 inches and
the other about 3 inches. Removable front barbed needle and Hair tuft rear bore seal. Firing the dart into an animal sent a plunger forward in the barrel of the syringe to deliver the medicine. The only medicine that came with the gun was pure liquid nicotine and you had to estimate the exact weight of the animal or the dose was either not effective or fatal. Very dangerous to use.
