Ghost ring peeps and double rifles
This may have come up before, but is anyone fitting any sort of peep sight to their double rifles? I was thinking an Ashley tapped and screwed to the rib of an inexpensive Pedersoli Kodiak muzzleloading or cartridge double might be just the nuts, if it is compatible. Seems like one of the Kodiak shooters has done this. Any thoughts? One of the advantages of the double is supposed to be its speed, and it is hard to imagine anything much faster than a ghost ring.

Bill,

I had a Pedersoli with exactly the sight system you are thinking about. It was a very good system and made even better with the addition of a fire sight front bead at the suggestion of my gun smith.

Bill, PWN had this setup on his Pedersoli. and I handled it at Camp Cooley at our double rifle pig hunt. It was great! I have a couple of the Pedersolis, and that is the way I'm going with them. Ashley, is only about ten miles from me, and they are friendly folks.

The Ghost ring back sight can be mounted,on the rib as you say, and with a package of their "TRY POSTS"made of plastic, you can work out the proper hight of the front blade. You probably already know, but some may not, the try posts fit into the dovetail of your front ramp, and are of different hights, and are segmented.
The drill is to set your Ghost ring a near bottom, then fire a round on a target at your regulation distance, useing the top of the try post. It the rifle is shooting low, which it most likely will, you simply move down the segments till you get to a point on the post that puts you on target. Clip the post off at that point, send it to Ashley, and they will cut you a front blade to that hight. Easy ain't it! [Cool]

PWN, Mac: Thanks for the answers. Any particular model of the Ashley that you chose for this service? The pictures I have seen of them show a rather blocky sight sitting high on a base. Also, how many screws to they mount with? Are they 8X32 screws or what?

Bill,

I wish I could answer that question for you. However, I purchased my rifle with the sights already installed.

Bill, one of my Pedersoli rifles is already tapped for Warne QD bases, and Ashley makes the Ghost ring to fit that base, so that's the one I'm going to use! I may look into the fire sight as well for the front once I get the proper height established! The rifle I'm going to put them on is chambered for 458RCBS! [Cool]

I had Rick Stickley do a lenthwise dovetail with a ball and spring retainer, so that I could slip a peep in and out of a double rifle. It also had a blank to put in the dovetail when I didn't want the peep installed...It was a very nice setup and I sure liked it...very clean, neat and simple...

All he had to do was be sure it lined up with my standing iron sight, shoot it, then file the standing iron off....still had two down and the peep....

Any decent gunsmith can do this ditty...........
