Lar45470 NE groove and twist?
Hi all, what would be a good recommended number of grooves and twist rate for a 470 NE bbl from pacnor? 6 or 8 groove, 16" or 18"?
Where is a good place for 470 Brass?
Thanks.

Lar45I've found Bell, Bertram and Morma brass. Is anyone better than the other?
what about sizeing dies. old western scrounger has CH dies in stock. I think RCBS is special order. any thoughts on dies?

500grainsBertram tends to be soft, the rim may not be square, and the primer holes might be off center. Bell is usually pretty good.

JBoutfishnBeen using CH dies threaded for RCBS Press without problems. I believe the cost was about 1/2 that of RCBS dies.
Only brass I have used is Bell, so I can't compare.

<Pfeifer>Lar45,
Where about in Idaho are you? I have a set of RCBS 470 NE dies you could come over and use if you are near the Boise area. Don't particularly want to sell them at the moment.

outlawsixJust started my 470 nitro project. Talked to Pac-Nor and they said the 1-18" is what you want. The 1-16" is for the 475 lignbaugh and 480 ruger. 5-6 weeks for delivery time on a standard match SS.

Lar45I'm in Pocatello, A little far for an afternoon reloading session.
I ordered the CH dies.
Bell Brass sounds good.
1:18 sounds good to me. I'd better order right away then.
Reamer ordered from Reamerrentals.com
I guess Dillon makes a 470NE conversion kit for my RL500B, so I'll get that.
I'm going to have Dan at
www.mountainmolds.com make a 500gn mold. I'm thinking LFN style in 80% or 90% nose with gascheck.
I've seen pics of a couple of doubles with a ghost ring peep sight on it. What do you think about this instead of the traditional express sights? With maybe an Ivory or gold bead front?
I've read that WartHog ivory works well. Any source for that?

outlawsixI found a set of the ch-4d dies on gunbroker. Included the three dies as well as the shell holder. Came to less than $100 with shipping. Look around and you may be able to save a little cash. Depending on the front sight make you may be able to get a hi-vis type of sight. This is my plan. They are available for ruger as well as NECG front sights from NECG. Don't know about the rear yet. Will probably be either a ruger or NECG adjustable express sight with some low power scope as the main sighting system.
