I know many of you have tried this, so what have you come up with for loads? I've played with cast in the .404, .425 Exp.,etc. to find something more practical for N.A. game that doesn't require the penetration, plus cheaper practice. Also, just picked up a good quantity of Speer's 400 grain jacketed for the Ruger pistol, ......any reason these couldn't be used in the .470? ~Barry

XMP5744 is your powder for this.

Start at 40 grains and work up until it regulates with a 500 grain pill.

You will be starting off at 1400 fps.

I agree with 500 Grains. I would add that if you can get gas checked bullets, then you'll have a much easier time cleaning and will likely be able to get close to the jacketed bullet velocities. I used 45 grains of XMP5744 with a 480 grain cast bullet at 1550 fps. This load just happened to regulate in my Searcy for some reason. It was a bit slower than the 2150 fps fullhouse loads, but it was way plenty for North America!

You will need a 500 gr, .476 mold and Linotype. Be carefull as the RCBS molds are a little small. My RCBS mold was .475 and I had to lap it out to get it to work properly. This was somewhat complicated and I can describe the process if you like. XMP5744 worked well at 45 grs and required no filler. I also have a Searcy 470 double.-Rob

I have been shooting a 425-grain LFN GC hardcast with my 475 Linebaugh revolvers and I think this bullet should work just fine with a 475 caliber rifle. I would definitely use it when I have my 470 Mbogo built. Later.

I shoot some gas checked 460gr cast bullets that Paul H (he's on this forum) sold me. He makes them for his 475 Linebaugh. My load was 114gr H4831, Fed 215 primers and Federal Brass. This is for my Encore, not a double rifle so I don't have to worry about regulation. It sure makes it a lot cheaper to reload the 470NE.
