Welcome to the forum.
Take a look at the Chapuis, at www.champlinarms.com

Please define affordable as far as you're concerned. There no cheap doubles to be had. There are doubles that cost less than the big name ones. It depends on what you're looking for and how much you're willing to spend.

The closest thing to a cheap double may be the Kodiak in 45-70. Last I saw they retailed for around $2500? I'm sure if you search on "Kodiak" you can get better info than I know. If they come this year, EAA will sell a butt-ugly one for under $1000 in several calibers.

Yes, there is an affordable double. A Searcy PH model costs just US$9500 and is excellent in all respects. It is a rifle that will last a lifetime and more, so if you still have 50 years left to live, that's just $200 per year, a very affordable sum. And you can get your money back at any time by selling the rifle.

A Kodiak double in 45-70, in contrast, is a waste of $2500 because it is not suitable for stopping dangerous game. Plus, used ones are tough to sell.

I wasn't making recommendations, just describing the bottom end of "cheap".

TT, I meant only to comment on the advisability of purchasing one of the low end 45-70 doubles, not to critize you for providing the information.

I didn't take it that way, I just thought I'd clarify my post to the original question.
