What happened to the price of Woodleigh bullets????

I noticed a price increase awhile ago when stocking up for my 600 OK but I figured that was just because it’s a .620 bullet…

I now want to stock up on some 416 bullets for my Rigby and noticed that 400 gr Barnes TSX is actually cheaper per 50 than the 400 gr Woodleigh bullets…

Dealer price 60.99 versus 61.99….per Midway…

I know that’s only a buck difference but in the past haven’t the Woodleigh bullets been much more affordable by comparison???

It’s been awhile since I’ve bought any big bore bullets for anything other than my 600…..

What’s going on here???

Huntingtons has Woodleighs cheaper than Midway.

My guess:
Increases in metal prices; decrease in the value of the US dollar which makes imports more expensive.

But then again the Australian dollar is currently buying just under US$0.70c so the exchange rate is right up your alley. I just wonder whether the high price is a remnant of when the Australian dollar was almost at parity a few months back? I'd be expecting prices to start dropping with the next shipment to reflect the stronger US dollar in relation to Australian dollar.

Last year yes, today no. Metal prices have really slumped. The difference is in demand on all things firearms related. Demand is way up, prices stay up.

Not true today but was when they bought them I'm sure.

The 450gr. 416's are actually cheaper now than a year ago. I bought some from Midway last spring and paid right about $93/50. Noticed tonight that they're like $86 or so. Who knows, but they have gone up in the last couple years, but so has everything else. In the big scheme of things, they're a minor expense, IMHO. I shoot cheaper stuff for practice then sight and shoot a handful of the good stuff to ensure reliability.

Metal prices have crashed, and the US dollar has gotten much, much stronger vs the AU dollar, going from just over .90 to under .70 since if memory serves.

One would optimistically think price would be down by a third, but it ain't happening.

Copper has been under 1.40/lb recently. I needed some copper rod last month that came to 2.3 lb/foot. The asking price was $62/foot! I passed.

The ammo and bullet manufacturers are trying to make up for the high metal prices of the last year. They're selling now what they bought a year ago. Also, the Obama phenomenon of fantastic ammo demand is havding an effect, I'd bet. Demand is still high. For example, a friend is buying a thousand rounds of 6.8 SPC. Lotta guys are still stocking up for the "revolution."

my suggestion is get into bullet casting, its so much cheaper, especially when it comes to the big bores, and its not all that complicated/difficult.
Once you get a few things ironed out the accuracey can be right up there with the cup and core proj, all at a fraction of the cost of the jacketed proj
The only problem is that LEAD WHEEL WEIGHTS are being phased out so stock up and hoard

Dont forget the shipping price also.I looked straight at the price they pay there .The cost of Woodleighs is about half shipping.They come from about half way around the world.Add that to the increase in metal and it bost it way up.I bought 5,000 416 when 410 gr sp when they were a bargin.I use to use them as my practice rounds not any more.It seems they also kick way harder in my gun.I \guess its the long bearing surface.They are one of the best soft points.

Anyone checked prices of bulk milsurp 223 or 308 ammo lately?? It's as costly as hunting ammo, if it's available at all.

Yep and it was wonderful mr bush who basnned all military surplus ammo.I could have bought 308 for $69 for 960 rounds not far back.Now it it about $14/20.All relaod supplies have gone way up.Powder here last year was $16 a pound now its $25 go figure.

Well, I think the higher prices & demand have more to do with what the incoming administration may do.

Metal prices are down, but as others said, stock is coming from materials purchased at a higher price earlier last year, probably. Demand is way up right now, BECAUSE of the new administration. Fear of what lunacy they may create for us is very real and people are stocking up while they can. I'm not, but a lot are. I personally think they've got bigger fish to fry immediately, but they'll get around to it, you can bet.

I stocked up a while ago for my CZ 458 Lott with 500gr bullets made by Woodleigh bullets.My
416 I'm well supplyed with bullets.

If you think Woodleigh have gone up take a look at North Fork bullets. They make GS look cheap.
