OverkillWhat do you guys think about the "Stopping Power"
What do you guys say about the "Stopping Power".....?
I have been thinking that it is possible to knock down an moose whit a board side shoot whit a 585 Nyati.
I dont know that any longer...
But i think that if a angry moose are running at you, and you shoot him in the front of the chest whit a 585 Nyati 750 grains woodleigh soft nose at 2500 f/s.
Then i dont think that the moose are going to fall backwards, but i think it will stop him a little becausce of the energy...
What do you guys think about "Stopping Power" and about what i am thinking........?

arkypeteStopping power is an interesting concept and very much open to personal interpitation.
If I want a 100% one shot stop I could reference that to the time frame. A 155 mm HE round will give 100% stop to anything that walks this earth right now, no matter where I hit the critter. If I place the bullet in the right place, I can get a one shot stop that drops the amimal.
One shot stops have two components, the power of the cartridge and the accuracy of the shot. A 22rf in the brain verses .458 in the butt.
The powerful the cartridge the greater the margin for error of aim. I've forgotten the ivory hunter who shot his elephants with a 6.5mm with brain shots, because he was a good stalker and a great marksman. I'm sure there are fellows in this group who have witnessed people shooting the latest whiz bang shoulder cannon being fired poorly and leaving a wounded critter.
I'm sure that the above may leave you more confused. There is no sure fire cartridge that we as humans can pickup and shoot, that would give 100% knock down.

<500 AHR>Overkill,
This question of your has been asked and answered. There isn't anyone on this Forum that has shot an living animal with a 585 Nyati or bigger so they cannot comment. Why don't you build yourself one and then you can be the one and only expert.

SocratesI don't know. What would work to stop you from posting these redundant threads?
That would be serious 'stopping' power....
