Eland SlayerBest .458 Win Mag factory ammo?
If you were strictly going to use factory soft point ammo in a .458 Win.....what would you choose?
Right now I am leaning heavily towards the 450 gr. Barnes TSX in Barnes Vor-TX ammo.
Any other suggestions?
Wade, that's about as good as it gets. I like Swift A-Frames as well, or Trophy Bondeds. CEB (Cutting Edge Bullets) are phenomenal in both solids and "Raptors (softs), but they're a handload proposition as far as I know.
PS: Rifle will be there Tuesday! :-)

MARK H. YOUNGWade,
I've used the 458WM quite bit in Alaska and Africa and the 450 TSX load is without a doubt the load I would pick if I was going to only use factory ammo.

The .458 WM is easy to load. Brass availability can sometimes be an issue. I have loaded and used Northfork Cup Points and GS Custom Flat point solids both in 450 grains. A2230 and H4198 although others work fine. A2230 meters well and you can get good density without a compressed load.
The TSX is a great option. Enjoy!

Charles_HelmYou didn't say what you intended to shoot/hunt with it, which might make a difference.

drewhenrytntWade,
I roll my own 458WM and use exclusively CEB. According to Michael458, for just about anything in North America the 258gr Flatbase Tipped is the bees knees. I know he used one on a Hippo and destroyed it!
If you want to get plan a weekend to roll some let me know. Been using RL-7, but am going to experiment with AA1680.
