feeding issues with Barnes banded solids

I've been having occaisional feed issues with the BBS in my 416 Rigby. Once in awhile the round seems to hang up on the flat meplat. Anyone else seen this?

I have a Ruger tang safety .458 Win and it absolutely will NOT feed the banded solids from the magazine. I still load them and shoot them at inadimate objects because it makes me smile when I look at a loaded one. I shot one completely through and through a 24in thick red oak tree in my friends back yard. We never in a million years thought it would pass through but I can take you to the tree and show you if you don't believe me. A comparable hickory nut tree stopped it though. But yes to answer your question my rifle will not feed them at all.

Hog Killer

Find you a great gunsmith, that KNOWS about feeding issues and get your rifle fixed. This is a rifle issue not a bullet problem.

My Ewm 30S Lott will feed empty cases, NF FP, or anytrhing else, and you NEVER feel thae bolt pick up the round. It feeds great. The smith knew what he was doing and that it needed to be perfect/.

I feed the big flat nose bullets thru Winchester M70s with zero issues, 100% reliability. I have two Ruger M77s one in 458 Win-the other 510 Wells and they will NOT feed them at all, not even occasionally!

Have a proper gunsmith take a look.

Or get a Winchester.

+1 on deeper seating. My CZ works now I took the advice of BNagel. 3.582 with 102gr. RL-22 using Lee Collet Crimp die. I talked to Barnes about this and they said the depth was fine just make sure you can get a good crimp.

I agree with hog killer on this one. A feeding issue with one type of bullet is still a feeding issue period. It may not be a big deal with a small caliber rifle not intended to be used on dangerous game however on a large bore gun it should be resolved. Switching bullet types may help the issue however in my experience the problem will surface again and probable at the most inopportune time. I expect the issue can be fixed relatively easily by a competent smith.

Hey Dave, how are you?

Tough to choose. Both make BIG holes in things and penetrate like hell. Both are easy to reload and Jamison brass is easy to work with.

Two advantages of the 585 over the 600 are availability of a greater variety of bullets and slightly less recoil given the lighter bullet and correspondingly lighter powder charge. Rob (Robgunbuilder) and Jay (Macifej) can make just about anything one could want so bullet selection for either isn't a problem just that Woodleigh, Barnes and a couple of others have more "over-the-counter" stuff in .585.

If I had to do it all over again - I would still go with the 600OK for myself but I couldn't give you a good reason for that other than "I just like it".
