Magnum hunterCZ 550 Magnum info
The CZ website now says the 550 Magnum is available in Standard or Lux stock versions. A dream has come true. Take of moment of silence. But then again, lets wait and see how it looks.

<Pfeifer>Can anyone confirm...I heard theat they were shipping some 550 Magnums? with plastic followers?

PCI would hope thats not true about the plastic followers. I know some 550 30/06 length rifles turned up in the US with plastic followers but there was an uproar and the yreplaced with a steel one free of charge. I doubt this is correct.

JudgeGCould you please refer me to a website that refers to the new stock option? I can't find it on
www.cz-usa.comIs it on the European CZ site? Please direct me to where you found this info. I'll try not to smile too hard until I have a non-hogback model in .375 in my hands.
01 February 2003, 18:24
DesertRamYes, please direct us to the right place. I need a safari rifle and had all but decided on a Model 70 in .300 Win Mag, but would be very interested in a CZ with a regular American style stock. That would be great news...

Magnum hunterTO get to the CZ sight I saw the info on, go to The Big Bore Rifle Website, go to Gun makeres and click on the CZ link there. It will take you to the main cz homepage, not the CZ USA page and go to the appropriate links. The info on the 550 magnum is in a paragraph at the bottom of the description. Hope its true and soon.

<Kboom>The problem seems to be with CZ-USA. The standard stock, apparently is available in Europe, but not the US.
CZ-USA would no doubt sell a lot more of these with some kind of "classic" stock but they don't seem to care.

Why not contacting an EU's dealer or CZ headquarters through your local CZ's dealer. I have the CZ 550 Safari mag, this model is made only for US market we can't find it in EU. My Belgian CZ's dealer has imported it directly from the factory. Because all CZ are made in Czech Rep.

<Kboom>BER007,
Some time back,a gentleman from Sweden posted that you could get the standard stock there. I only know we can only get that "Bavarian" stock on the Safari Mag in the US. I'm going to be restocking mine.
02 February 2003, 09:20
citori3I hope everyone tries the "hogback" stock before they decide to restock. I thought I'd hate it, but it is very comfortable on my .375 H&H. The look of it starts to grow on you after awhile. I've decided to keep it.

RIPcitori3,
I'm with you. I love the Lux/Bavarian/hogback stock of the CZ. We must be more adaptable than some of our brethren. We may be more highly evolved forms of our species.
02 February 2003, 11:07
PCI am keeping the stock on my cz 550 .375 it really is fine. I would only change it because I like composite stocks. In-fact if cz made a synthetic stock in the hogs back style and it had of been on the cz .416 I purchased I would not have changed the stock.
I think your all winging about nothing, lady's buy them up and bloody well enjoy them before they do start making plastic cz safari magnums or put there prices up

Anyway, I do like the Lux stock.

<Yukon257>Weird, never seen a 550 with the hogback stock, maybe the straight stock is imported to Canada.
Recently bought a ZKK602 off a buddy and it does have the "hogback" stock, gun was originally purchased about 10 years ago.
Just an idea, but if someone is in the marketfor a straight stock, how about looking in Canada for a take off stock.

<halfbreed>Dagga Ron, I'm with you. I'm keeping the hogback on mine as well. 458 wm, is all I will ever need.
If I could ever get up into Alaska.
I only shoot about 30 loads from the bench in a day of shooting. With lots of 44 mags. to boot.

<David>judgeg,
The CZ site you are looking for is
http://www.czub.cz/homea.htmHere you will find the reference to the "standard" stock on the CZ550 Magnums

DaydreamerBe carefull what you wish...
I have the CZ550 in 416 Rigby "Standard" stock - the (?) drop of comp is way too low - I'll have to laminate a roll-over check-piece to the stock to raise the comp about 1" to comfortably align with my (OK - very high) scope in special EAW mounts for the CZ550.
What I heared is that the hogsback stock is better for use with scopes and not to bad for the irons.

RIPI am 5'11" and 212# naked and barefoot, and the Lux fits my fat face just fine, with low mounts or iron sights. The Lux stock is really very similar to a Weatherby Monte Carlo, though more tasteful and pleasing to the eye.
Ah for the days when I could rip off a quarter mile in 54 seconds, a half mile in 2:02, a mile in 4:30, two miles in 9:25, all in the same track meet and not even breathe hard. Of course I weighed 145# at my high school running peak. I continued to run for 20 years, doing 10K's, 10-milers, marathons and an ultramarathon, until my hips and knees started to ache.
I finished trying to wreck my knees and hips, and they feel just fine. Now I am trying to wreck my right shoulder, and it is holding up well.
Some pushup muscles and a little blubber helps with the big bores.

RIPI see that the mention of me "naked and barefoot" has killed this thread.

RIPPC,
My wife doesn't think it is too horrible. Also, My shoe size has increased from 10-1/2 B to 12-1/2 E since my highschool days. Hey, I am still a growing boy, broader of beam and gut than I used to be. I think the big bores help to prevent osteoporosis, as long as they don't break your bones. Gravity and time takes its toll.
