GeorgeS: that's a really beautiful Cape Buffalo you've got there in your signature picture!

When and where did you take it?

I've used the Swift .375/300gr. Swift A-Frame for a long time, and it has never failed me, even on Cape buffalo.

I would consider GS Custom FN solids in any of the calibers you mention.

Or the new North Fork solids.

Or the North Fork softs if you want soft points.

Bullets I don't like:

Swift A-Frame (fouls my bores)

Barnes X (fouls my bores, shoots crappy for me)

Barnes solid (too long and uses up powder capacity, hits top pressure too soon when I used them)

Speer AGS solids (the tungsten rod breaks free when the bullet hits something very hard)

I used barnes xbullets and super solids 450gr from my 458 winmag both bullets looked like they should be in an advertisement for barnes.

Jim: I like Swifts and the old style steel Hornadys, but today's premiums are ALL good. I'd pick the one your rifle shoots best. jorge

PS: the comment about Swifts fouling bores does not bear out in my experience at all and I shoot them in five different calibers; 416 Rigby, 375 H&H, 35 Wheelen, 338 Win mag and 300 Weatherby. It's a Super bullet. jorge

My .416 Remington Magnum shoots the 400 grain Barnes XLC bullets really well. Killed buff with this bullet and have no complaints on the performance. My .375 shoots the Combined Technology 300 grain Fail Safes MOA and killed buff with this bullet also with authority. My .416 Rigby shoots the Woodleigh 410 grain solids and softs. No buff stories but the solids worked extremely well on elephant. I would recommend shooting the toughest premium bullet your gun shoots best for heavy game like buffalo.
