Visited Butch today,
I stopped by Butch Searcy's place in Boron, CA today for a long overdue visit. He's doing a lot better and is back to working part time in the shop. Like old men do, we talked guns and health issues as we're both part mechanical since he had his hip replaced last month and I had the knee replaced a couple of years ago.

Here are a couple of his guns, the 4 bore on the left and the 600 OKH on the right.

You couldn't pay me to carry, much less shoot that 4 Bore!

What is a 600 OKH? Is that 4 bore a double? Looks heavy.

Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

Is it a .600 OKH or a .600 NE?

I though that Butch said 600 Overkill but thought that I saw 600 OKH on the barrel.

The 4 Bore was 24 lbs and a beast to hold up in the firing position. It definitely should be shot off the sticks or you have to be in very good shape. Butch said the owner was a 70+ year old guy who returned it to the shop for disassembly as he's sending it out for engraving.

I also saw an AR Member's rising bite, sidelock gun being built and it is gorgeous! I won't give out his name without permission but he's getting a beautiful rifle.

24 lbs. Wow!! Not that I wouldn't want all that weight when it went.off. Sure would put 416 recoil into perspective shocker

Why a 600 OK or 600 OKH instead of a 600 NE? Confused

D/R Hunter

Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...
