Gringo CazadorI'm bettin Jeffeosso is the first to land one.
Jeffe, if you geta hold of one what ya going to do with it, rebarlls, ream etc.
I wouldn't mind having one but would have to grind the 45/70 off it. If I didn't I'm afraid I'd start believing in championship wrestling and the fact Elvis was really a spy.

Heritage ArmsWe have 9 on order, they are telling us July 1. We are all lined up for them
Aleko
Australian importer hasn't even heard of them. Once landed in the States I think I'll place my order, early Christmas present sounds good.
Thanks...

Elvis aint dead.. he just went home!!
I am planning on starting with 45/70, loading it up.. and then, if possible, ream to 450 ne2... and/or build a set of 470 NE barrels

What are the possibilities as far as reaming it out...what .45cal cartridges would the gun be suitable for? .458 Win Mag perhaps?
11 April 2004, 11:35
jeffeossoHey 444,
before any jumps on you, i'l inform you...
1: double rifles were designed and have been confirmed, to work at a relativily low operating pressure (38,500 cup as a reference load, but not as "the" authoritative one
2: A reason that nitro rounds are so large is to both HOLD that amount of (then BP or cordite)and to work at lower pressure with a greater volume of gasses
3: moderm smaller rounds work at higher pressure (say 48,000 cup and up)
4: belted rounds tend to be 50,000 and up, including the 458 winmag
5: there are rounds and pressures suitable for doubles, most have rims for positive extration.. belts ARE nothing but rims on the case wall.. but not quite the same for extraction.
6: since it is reasonable possible (not conformed) that this might hold the pressure and thrust of a nitro express round, i'll take that as a lower risk.
The 458, inso (studied) is a round best suited for bolt guns.

Russell E. TaylorI've been on this like stink on ca-ca since before I went to Iraq.
The Russian government hasn't granted export permits. This information is from EAA as recently as this past week, from the person I've been dealing with for quite some time.
I'm sure not holding my breath for these suckers ever showing up in my lifetime. I have a standing order for two of them if they ever reach our shores. I emphasize, "if."

Out of curiosity, Jeffeoso, who was it at EAA that told you things were fixed on the Russian end of the situation? I was told nothing has budged yet, with regard to paperwork in Russia.

the444shootermuchas gracias para la informacion! I've never really studied double rifles and the pressures that they were designed for, thanks for the rundown!

jeffeossoRuss,
"eaacorp@eaacorp.com" is the reply from address. On feb 19th, they sent me "held in paperwork in russia, hope out by july"

I wouldn't load the 45-70 too hot!
12 April 2004, 06:22
jeffeossoMac,
this rifle is going to be offered in 308, 223, 30-06 and 45,70... based off the shotgun action...
that action shoots winchester super slugs(i forgot the name) which is 385 at 1950fps.....
that's 20 grains less bullet at higher than than garrett loads for the 45/70...
What does that mean? THe action can take pressure and thrust, as a proven.
I'll be trying it out in various things... it'll probably wind up being a 450 #2, and if that works, I'll bother making 470ne barrels for it.
jsut my opinion...
then again, the 98 mauser was made for 45k, 8x57, and it holds monsters

NitromanI wouldn't hold my breath, I just received an email from EEA:
we hope before the
end of 2004, small paperwork problem

Howdy,
When are these fine critters going to be available?
Thanks,

LocalHandJeffe,
The EAA website says that these doubles will come out with chrome-lined bores. Whats your plan for rechambering? Will you use carbide reamers in 450NE#2? I'm interested in both the process and the possibility of this conversion. Also, the listed weight is 7.25 pounds, which seems light even for a 45/70. Any thoughts on bulking up?
Doug

jeffeossoDoug,
Howdy and welcome
My son's 458 winmag is 8.25# and my 500 jeffe-ry is 10.5... I can easily add weight (tungsten and lead) to get it comfortable, but, in honesty, the weight is a secondary concern.
I'll buy a good reamer, as I expect if it works, it'll be fairly popular....
I am far more concerned about it's barrel thickness than I am about total gunweight... and my first concern is GETTING one of em.
my other 45/70 (handirifle) is VERY VERY light, (jsut weighed) 6#3oz... and it's a good whack in the cheek.. but not unbearable...

I, for one, think EEA is leading you down a crooked path, or the factory is leading them that way!
I believe problem is not paper work at all, but the factory is useing all their actions to make the very large order by SAVAGE for their new shotgun! When the water settles on that order, suddenly the paper work will mistereously be solved!
In any event, simply because this thing is chambered for the small diameter high pressure cartridges, doesn't mean a larger diameter cartridge can be used in the same diameter chamber area, even at less pressure. The chamber walls are going to get pritty thin, especially in a Mono-block action, when reamed out to the 450NE, or 450#2, and will certainly get thin when chambered for a cartridge based on a 500NE case, as is the 470NE! Additionally, makeing any comparison, with this thing, to a Mauser 98 action borders on insane!
As I have said before,at $600, I will, more than likely, buy one of these things, chambered for 45-70, and rebarrel it with short 20" barrels chambered for 30-30 Win, and permenantly regulate it for 170 gr factory ammo! It will have, good Iron sights, and QD scope rings, and bases, with a SCOUT SCOPE, mounted out where it doesn't interfere with quick reloading. IMO, this make far more sense, than trying to go big, with this little Russian! That, however, is why they make different loads, so everyone can shoot what they want.
Group Buy!!!!......I'm In!!!!!!!!!

That's what I suspected you meant, but seeing as I don't have an FFL, it'll be pretty hard for me to work the group buy. We'd need a friendly dealer to handle it.

Ku-dudeAre any of the other calibers available? Ku-dude
15 April 2004, 17:26
Lar45check out their website, I think they have 30-06, 270, 7.62x39 and others.
16 April 2004, 19:29
<Timberghost>Jeffe,
Group buy or otherwise...I will take the first one that I can get my hands on. My FFL friend has been selling the shotguns since last fall, but can't get any 45-70's yet. I really like the 450 NE#2 and 470NE idea

. Please keep us posted if this comes to be. Mac may be right on the thin walls after reaming to NE, but wouldn't it still be a reasonable priced double if one had to make new barrels?

EXPRESSWhat about reaming out to .45-120? BTW, as far as I can tell, it should be availiable here already, it went onto the national cataloge the 15th of March.
17 April 2004, 14:12
Paul H45-120 sounds good! What I'd like to see is one in a 35 caliber, maybe a 356 Win?
17 April 2004, 16:26
Mickey1Check out this thread about converting to the bigger cartridges. Particularly Tom Bigbores posts regarding the German Proof House.
http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=doubles&Number=13400&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1There may be a lesson here for all the 45-70 shooters that like to overload the Mod 95 also.

GeorgeSMickey,
Fortunately (or unfortunately), we don't have proof houses here, so folks are free to blow their guns and themselves up if they are of a mind to.

God, I love this country!

dgr416I love Biakal sxs shotguns ,I have two 20s ga and 1 12 ga.It is the best shooting sxs I have ever shot.I have the ones with single triggers and ejectors. There have been over 2500 rounds with no problems through one of my 20 ga sxs.I want a Biakal sxs rifle in 375 win. That would be a cool little rifle.I guess I will have to get a 45-70 sxs.I hope I see one soon. Its lets us workin folks be able to get a sxs rifle.I have put my sxs biakal shotguns through hell and back where I would take no other shotguns.I lost one bird hunting in the snow it was 15 ft down and I dug it out and it fired perfict.I have also shot them at -30 .Its the sweetest shooting sxs shotgun I have ever seen.I am sure I will love the sxs rifle also.Is the SXS rifle on the 20 ga frame or the 12 ga frame?Would a 375 win work in one of these rifles and how much would this extra barrel cost to be made.

Pete ENever mind the big .45 calibers, imagine it in a 9.3x74mm?
Now that would be a lovely gun for driven boar!

Pete

Copper CountryAt the NRA Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, EAA did not have any of the double rifles at their booth. The Rep said 'by August' they should be here.
