Price check on WIin 70 Classic 375 H&H
I was at Cabela's the other day and saw on the used gun rack a Winchester 70 Classic 375 H&H Mag. The action and barrel are matte blue and it sits in a WInchester tueeprware stock? It does have iron sights on it. What do you think would be a decent price for this rifle. I'm more interested in it as an action donor. There are some handling marks on it and a couple light scartches on the barrel. I know the price they have on it is way too high, but I know a guy who works in the Gun Library who said he could make me a good deal on it. What would you guys say it is worth? Thanks.

First of all, you should've asked him what the "good deal" was. Since you are posting about this, I assume that you are really interested in it. Whatever retail is, subtract 30 %.

Thanks for the reply. I was in kind of a hurry the other day, so we didn't get a chance to discuss it. I wanted to see how much room there was between the price on the tag and the what they ususally sell for used.

I paid $699 plus tax for a NIB Winchester Model 70 Classic Stainless .375 H&H at Scheel's All Sports a couple of years ago. In the condition you describe I'd say no more than $600.

To give you some idea, there is a stainless/synthetic M-70 .375H&H on GunBroker for $729.95 right now.

If all you want is a doner action, then find a M70 chambered in 7mm stw or 300 weatherby, it's the same action and they're usually priced a couple of hundred bucks less. For some reason winchester seems to think that it's worth an extra $200 for a $3 set of sights and a bigger hole in the barrel.
