Barrel contour for a .375 H&H
I've just bought a new MarkX Mauser reciever that's set up for a .375 H&H cartridge. I'm going to have a Shilen barrel installed. Which contour would be a better choice, a #4 contour (0.65 @ 26" 4lbs 2oz) or a #5 contour (0.70 @ 26" 4lb 8oz) ? I want a rifle that won't beat me up too bad when I fire it, but I also don't have a gun bearer

either so weight is a concern. I'm thinking about 7 3/4lb to 8lbs of rifle should fit the bill.
What do you guy's think? No experince with big (upper medium) bores and could use a little advice
Thanks,
Terry

fredj338Cut it to 25" & go w/ the #5. You didn't say what type of hunting you want this rig for, but I like the bigger bore mags. to be a bit heavier.

D HumbargerForget the shilen & go with a #1450 contour Lothar Walter barrel. It can be considered a 4 1/2 contour & a better barrel too!

AtkinsonA number 4 at 26" is my choice..I also like the Lothar Walther barrels best...I like a finished 375 to weigh 9 to 9.5 lbs. with a 1x4 Leupold scope.
