Savage Safari Express in 375 H&H?
Does anyone have one of these and or what is the general opinion of them as a true DGR? I saw one yesterday and was very impressed with it particularly the stock fit and finish. Although not a true Mauser CRF action it seems to work very well and looks strong.

Also the blind magazine only carries 3 rounds which I suppose is a bit of a disadvantage over the Cz or similar, but at least the floorplate cannot open under recoil, spilling your rounds all over the place at an incovenient time.

Also I wonder about the muzzle brake and what affect that would have on point of impact if, say, one was to develope a load with it on and then switch it off.

I am very tempted to buy it as it is an attractive, different rifle and fits me well, love the open sights, stainless finish, barrel band etc.

Any comments?

dingo,

I own one and had it in RSA summer of 02...Shot very good and was able to group with reloads 2inch at 100yds with 300gr spitzer BT..
I only use the brake on the bench and shoot is closed when hunting..I feel 4 shots is plenty. First is the bread an butter shot and three backup shots...My rifle was flawless and I can shoot the express sight with both eyes open...The first closest sight I shoot out to 50 yds.. I put on a QD mount by Talbot and it went off and on and back to ZERO every time...With a Leupold LPS..
Any questions email me... [Smile] Also shot it open and closed and no major change of impact...

Does Savage still make this rifle? I was looking through their catalog and website and they don't show a 37 H&H. Only catalog a .458 Winnie in their Safari rifle. I'd consider one if it was availabel in .375

You'll have to look around to find one in 375 H&H but they can be had. I picked up one at a local pawnshop for under $550, check Gunbroker or Auction Arms. I believe the 300 win mag and the 375H&H were not made after 1998.
