Pistol scopes on big bore rifles?

Pistol scopes on big bore rifles?
Has anyone ever tried this?

They seem to be built to take extreme recoil, and have long eye relief. They are light and can be purchased in low magnification.

They seem like a good sight for a big bore, DG rifle.

You have to examine the specs of the scope on an individual basis. Most handgun scopes have an eye relief in the 9-18" area, which is too long. Max on a rifle would be about 6 inches, unless you are mounting it scout style.

Also, the parallax on handgun scopes is often factory set for 50-75 yds. This may present a problem if you ever plan on taking long shots at 150-200 yds.

Agree with KurtC. I tried this just last week, puting a pistol scope on my double rifle. Eye relief was way too long.

Long eye relief = Narrow field of view.

I did consider using a 2x leupold pistol scope in a scout scope configuration, but never got around to it.

I'm quite pleased with the leupy 2.5x compact, just as tough as the pistol scopes, and 5" of eye relief is enough for the big boomers.
