NickuduWhich is better & why .505 Gibbs or .500 Jeffery ??
RobGunbuilder,
Yes, after reading your last post, I sent the final dimensions of the box I finally got to work with 3 Down and one in the chamber with the Gibbs. I'm not implying it's cure-all but it does show it can be done on the CZ-550. I recall your mentioning a few weeks back that it was all but impossible to do this on the CZ-550 without a custom box and I nodded to myself in agreement. What a pain in the ass! Zero problem with just two down though. All our .500 Jeffery rifles (SABI) begin life with a new inline box fitted.

RobgunbuilderJ Wisner- Yup, I know about your excellent Enfield guards and yup I also know they work on that action! The CZ550 is another story though! Can you make such a guard to work with a CZ550? I talked to Sunnyhill at SCI in Reno about CZ550m boxes and they didn't think there was that much interest in CZ550 big bore conversions.
Nickudu- Thanks for those dimensions, I will give it a try and see if I can make a couple of those boxes. I totally agree with you on two down(no problem) three though is another story! I learned that lesson the hard way too!-Rob

my smith got three down in my 602 brno action (.585) but he had to make a whole new mag box. I have photos on cd if your interested.
No implications at all Nickudu apoligies if I made it sound that way
no I just reacll a pic of your great looking rig !! But you are right the .585 is a great looking round it looks much nicer than my .585 Nyati rounds.
500 Jeffrey, because I own one

Honestly though, the main reason I built one is I got a great deal on brass and a barrel blank, then an even better deal on the chambering of the round. I wanted the versitility of the .510" bore, as I can use cast bullets for inexspensive target practice, and mil surp ball ammo for fun.
All that said, if I was building a classic 50 cal hunting rifle, it would be the 505 Gibbs! I don't like the rebated rim on the Jeffrey, and there are enough options of hunting bullets in either bore. The 505 also has more of an aura about it.

NickuduJ Wisner - Have you a website or a catalog?
[ 05-10-2003, 03:15: Message edited by: Nickudu ]What do you think about HEYM Express rifle chambered in this calliber ? This action is big enough for .600 nitro, in which Saeed developed really hot loads (900gr at 2295fps). So I belive it is really strong for "hot" loads of .505 gibbs . . .
