416 Rigby
Nickudu put out Ross Seyfrids article on the page so i got the chance to read it, and its great. Confused

What i wonder one is that i read that a firm had used Rem 700 or Winchester M-70 to build new rifles upon. Interrestingly i have M-70 that i dont know what to do with...... Confused

Is it doaable without having to A: rob a bank or B: put up a pyramide scam and get money for it there or C: have it for something else, (400 H&H) , sell it buy a CZ 550 and style it a bit? Roll Eyes

Or D: call around to gunsmiths to hear if they have a barrel in 416 laying around, and if they have 602 receiver also laying around, so that i can get some of the spirit that other famous big game hunters have had with the 416 rigby, or should i be locked up somewhere and be forced to look upon other calibers and combinations by redheads that has escaped from nunnery because they couldnt stand not having having a guy to talk about big- bore calibers with? Don't sell it, except to me at a good price.

Get a CZ and have fun dolling it up.

Take a look at the Ruger Safari Magnums if they are avalable in Norway. They cost a bit more than the CZ but are a better value.

Hog Killer is giving some good advice. If you think "less is more" than the CZ will be fine. If, however, after you get a CZ you start down the vicious spiral of: 1) I wish it had better wood (the Ruger does), I wish it had a quarter rib (the Ruger does), I wish it had a barrel-band front swivel (the Ruger does), I wish I had more options for front sight beads and posts (the Ruger does), I wish I had more options for scope rings (the Ruger does). See where I'm going?

the ruger costs ca 20000 Norwegian, 3000 US, theyre sold good over here, plus the Dakota is also, at double that price for a real one, M76 Classic with a little extra on it. Ididnt think about the Ruger, but theyre goosd, since i have one Nr 1 in .450 Ne, iam in the process of getting pictures in it.

I went down the 416 rigby route via seyfrieds article. i read it a long time ago in the early 90s, bought my 'eleanor' this year and had them tweak it. It is a CZ 550 with internals smoothened and checked. holds 4 down. i had it glass bedded and a pachmayr declerator put onto it. I am using steel lynx mounts at the moment, but may upgrade to QDs soon. with a 1x4 VXII the darn thing is just great.

so they are pretty good with tweaking... i have hunted with it and it punches through everything i shoot it with... boom!

cheers, TM

Just got my CZ 550 Rigby 2 days ago, very happy with it. I'd read quite a bit of negative stuff but overall is very good. Nice dark peice of wood and everything fits very well. I've got QD Talleys for it just need to bed it. This one has a single crossbolt above the trigger. I'll probably shorten the barrel to 22-23" reinstall the sight and add a barrel band. The trigger has about a million parts but adjusted down to a light very crisp let off. The set part is total crap. Overall a great starting point.

I have found out what to do, a friend of mine has never had a 300, i have never had a 338, were switching rifles , hell get my m-70 300 win mag and ill get his 338-378 improved, with bullets, brass, dies and so, its build on a BRNO 602 ,so its fine for a 416 later on .
