Meopta scopes on Dangerous Game Rifle
Meopta scopes on Dangerous Game Rifle
I'm looking for info any of you might have on the quality/durability of the Meopta Meostar
1-4x22 scope on a .458 Lott or similar recoiling rifle.
Thanks in advance for your input.

GerardI would not hesitate to fit any Meopta scope to a rifle. They are well built and have excellent glass. They perform well beyond what the price suggests. Presently they head my list of value for money.

GAHUNTERI was looking at Meopta for my Lott, but decided against it because it had only three-quarters of the eye relief of the Kahles 1-4x20.(3-inches vs. 4, I think it was)
With big calibers, eye relief becomes an important consideration.

ROSCOEI have one Meoptia scope...and I like it very much. The only down side is the eye relief. I would be careful with a big bore rifle...you may dot your eye! Optics are great though IMO.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! 'What the hell could possibly go wrong?'

BuliwyfKeep the weight of the scope on your .458 Lott as light as possible. Under recoil the heavier scopes have more potential for movement.

Paolo9,5x73If the rifle is made in Czech Republic I might flirt with good 'ole Optikotechna, but otherwise I would go with true and tried Leupold. I did something similar by buying Austrian scope for rifle made in Germany. Although a fine scope, I didn't like Assembled in USA on that 'Conquest' tube.
Thanks for the input.....
I've got a CZ 550 Safari rechambered to .458 Lott from .458 Win.
I smoothed up the action, had it double checked to make sure it fed and ejected, had a big white bead installed, had the barrel cut down to 22". Now, it handles sweet and shoots great.
Jim Cloward, here in Lake Stevens, WA did the smithing.
I just wanted to install a decent scope and had no 1st hand knowledge of the Meopta scopes.

That is the concensus opinion.

The glass of the Meopta is very clear just like a Zeiss, but their eye relief is too short for high recoiling rifles. The Meopta is also a heavy scope in comparison with a Leupold. For DRG pick a low power scope with a wide FOV.
