Suggestions on barrel contour
I'm gathering components for my latest project--a .404 Jefferey on a Montana 1999 action--and I'm looking for suggestions on barrel contours. I've got the barrel blank already and will taper it myself. I plan to use a NECG ring base rear sight but before I can order it I need to decide on a barrel contour. Your suggestions, please? Thanks.

Whichever sporter contour that is between 0.700" and 0.725" at the muzzle will give you best all around utility, accuracy, and not too heavy. 0.750" at the muzzle is too heavy. You could go as light as 0.675" at the muzzle but I wouldn't go any lower.

I chose a Lothar-Walther heavy magnum Sporter barrel for my 404 Jeffery project on the Montana Rifle long action, that John Ricks is putting together.
