ColeMake a double rifle out of 2 Rugers ?
I Can't afford a double rifle so I thought I'd duct tape 2 Ruger #1's in 458Lott together to make my own.Maybe have 1 with iron sights & the other 1 with a scope ? What do you think about built in shooting sticks attached to the barrels with duct tape ,with casters on the ends touching the ground, to hold the darn thing up? ANY IDEAS ?

And I thought you had a great mind.

Maybe you just have been watching too much Sigourney Weaver.

Mike375If you did it properly it would be better than a double rifle. You could extract a fired shell while the second barrel was cocked and loaded and ready to fire.

GrandpasezMike--Really not a bad idea.Get breech blocks and innerds,
build a reciever to take both, with a wide hairy stock. And screw in barrels.Figured it out once and would be about
2.5 inces wide.A much better idea than the 260 Rem...Ed.

JudgeGWhy not just put to H&R rifles in .45/70 together. I'd be much cheaper, less than one Ruger #1. After all, no more is needed in Africa than the mighty Garrett load. Heck, you'd even have auto eject and a classic break-open style. You could put a low power scope on one side and a big variable on the other. The actions are flat-sided so superglue v. duct tape could be used. Since the fore ends are plastic, judicial use of a Bic lighter could melt them together... Double Bubble could be used for the wedge. A little warm spit and a finger squeeze, voila, regulation!
But looking at the new Blaser double rifle, it seems someone has beat me to it?

Bad Ass WallaceJust for you, the swiss already have a rifle

<JOHAN>Gentlemen
I know Hagn made a falling block double. It was also takedown. I 'm not sure if they are avilable for customers. A falling block action will be much stronger than any break top action.
Bad Ass Wallace- That swiss gun must have portable powerplant to run all the flashlights

tiggertateFor optics may I suggest magic-marker crosshairs on the lenses of your favorite TASCO binos. Duct taped to the frames, of course.

skl1I probably shouldn't admit it, but I wrote to Ruger and suggested they build a double rifle using the No. 1's falling block action and a Krieghoff like adjustable wedge for regulation a couple of years ago. Of course, I suggested they call it the No. 2.
I still think it's a good idea, mostly because of the action strength.

nopride2It should open with one lever and have selective ejectors.

jeffeossoDuct tape?
Can't you just get about 6 packs of jb weld and then machine the action hangers out?
I figured you should use some of ole axholes' 405 loads, and them him fire it first...
remember, a DOUBLE rifle mean it DOUBLES when the loads are soo high that it would split the barrel tothe midpoint..

When you get it together try this starter load, 405gr hard cast over 72.347 gr Pyrodex. As I understand it this load in a 458 Lott duplicates the original 45-70 as used with some?? success at the Little Big Horn.Should also be good for sleeping Cape Buff as long as the horns are worn down. I would also suggest scoping it with the 6x18 B&L on a sliding mount that could be made from a couple 8d finishing nails fastened on with the JB Weld. This would enable the scope to be centered over each barrel as needed and save the weight of a second scope. Should also be perfect for our next PD shoot! Just some thoughts

ColeI'm looking forward to another prairie dog shoot with you. the 458Lott should do the trick. My CZ American in 416 rigby came in today. I'll work up some prairie dog/cape buffaloe loads for it.
Back to the double rifle loads.left barrel 600gr Barnes. right barrel buck shot loaded in the 458lott case! Remember those prairie dogs that charged us.I still wake up at night in a cold sweat.
Give Dennis a call to see what he thinks.
