I was going through my QuickLoad bullet data and noticed that there is not a Woodleigh .423 400 grain bullets option for the 404 Jeffery.

Checked Woodleigh's website and sure enough it's now a .422 caliber bullet. Oops!

The .423 is a 347 grain bullet for the 10.75 x 68mm .423"

HMMM, maybe a misprint, have you checked with Geoff? I have been using Woodliegh in 400 gr. 423 for years and the 405 gr. bullet of yesteryear in .423...but might be a new change...I even assisted Geoff with the 450 gr. PP and solid in .423..My primary rifle for African DG was the 404 J. I don't recall any .422 bullets avaliable.

If thats the case I doubt it would make much difference??

The bottom box on the left side of the attached picture is .422. Not sure in what order or when I bought all these 404 Jeffery bullets.

Well I'll be damned!! Been shooting the 404 for upteen years and don't recall ever shooting a .422 bullet, but perhaps I have, don't recall ever checking as a matter of fact..All my load data is, was, based on .423 bullets..Oh well it wouldn't change anything one way or the other, not in the least, but nice to know anyway..

Surely you aren't using .422" or .423" diameter projectiles in a 450-400 3" or 3.25"?

If your question is truly just about the data provided in QuickLoad, it is very easy to add entries into the QL database so whatever you want shows up in there. I have noticed that the QL data is incorrect or incomplete for many of the listed bullet vendors, and it is also true that the various bullet vendors change what they offer over time too - no worries, just add the entries you like using the little 'calipers on a bullet' icon at the top of the QL frame.

If you are really more concerned with what Woodleigh actually sells, or what diameter they truly are, those are different issues.

Most folks likely know this, but Woodleigh generally make their steel jacketed FMJs .001" smaller than the RN/SN to reduce pressures. The lower left box is FMJ, and does specify .423" as its diameter, so the above doesn't hold 100%. Maybe not steel jacket under the copper?

Pardon me, in my 404, I shot .423 and shot 410 and 411 in the 450-400s..

Its an age thing, thats why I don't buy green bannas!! I didn't make that mistake in my first post btw...

Unfortunately Woodleigh catalogue year 2008 is one of two missing from my full set but in 2007 the 404 bullets were listed as .423" and in 2009 .422" so by deduction the change was made in 2008. Maybe in that catalogue Geoff gave a reason for the change.
The change to .422" was across the board for all weights and style i.e. 350gr, 400gr, 450gr solids and softs.
The 347gr solid and soft nose bullets for the 10.75x68 have remained at .423".

In my older catalog not dated, all the 404s are 423, not mention of .422...and I suspect most if not all were purchased at that time from that catalog...
