I don't know about bad influences, but as I have no money in the game at this point and am playing the shifting-wildcat game I am having Boom Stick flashbacks.

I should probably either sit on the sidelines, look for a cheap STW, or order a RUMsveld reamer...

I guess I could order just a barrel, but then I would have to pick stainless or not...

The other problem is that although I have a press (still in the box) I have never reloaded a round, so I have that learning curve ahead as well.

I will try to avoid stirring the .395 wildcat pot while I figure out if I have made a funding commitment or not!

"Tatanka" is a Lakota (Teton Sioux) word, what Crazy Horse would have called a bull bison. Native American:

Someone else before me has necked the 404 Jeffery down to .416 (with no other changes) and called it the .416 Tatanka.

The .395 Tatanka will be similarly retro in some regards: .416 Rigby case with a 20-degree shoulder designed for slick feeding in full-auto weapons.

"Dances with Wolves" the movie made "Tatanka" a common household word. Has this taken a toll on your memory? 700 NE and 2-Bore:

Sorry RIP! I have a Kevin Costner aversion phobia virus. Never saw the movie. Makes sense to me though. If one is naming new and slick proprietary cartridges - they should be named after tasty animals.

Full Auto Tatank-a-matic sounds interesting.

398 Lapua Magnum: 2.724"
.395 Tatanka: 2.900" (shoulder needs fire forming to same neck and shoulder as the 398 Lapua)

Well hopefully if everything goes well in a month or 2 im loading ammo and getting paid for it. Over here you must apply for a new caliber every time and that takes some time and frustration, but it would be cool to have a totally new round that noone has heard about....

When i think about it, most of the rounds i have when i go to the shooting range has been a bit
unknown to the guys. Even the .300 win Mag is unknown to some of the guys there......

The 323 PH is under drawing now and when the money is up for it, the round will be designed in South Afrika for me, since i havent got any tools for the job here or the knowledge now.

Perhaps if a Yankee designer would work together, the 323 PH could be a 385 PH, designed in Afrika for African usages one day perhaps?

Having a simple Takedown rifle with 2 barrels in, one for Plains game and one "Loxo Popper"....

Changing a "378" to a "398" Weatherby Mag.:

In the .395 Tatanka "mockup-dummy" pictured above, I have used a .378Wby die with the belt recess cut off the bottom of the die to neck a .416 Rigby down to .375, then necked it up to .395. Fireforming and custom dies await.

It would really be good to have your 378/395 added to my Wby order.

You may well be the first person to mention .395 on this web site back in 2001.

It was a bit rhetorical, as in "why is it a .375 H&H instead of a .395 H&H" with of course tolerable recoil for the masses being the point ... nevertheless, it has come to pass.

I am afraid you won't get Weatherby to make up a 398 Weatherby for you. You'll have to start with a barrel from McGowen Precision Barrels, LLC.

That would be "smashing."
