I saw on Robs post on the 600 OK that you made a statement about lead vs a mercury recoil reducer. I don't want to pollute his thread as he is the only one who didn't 'get' the Troll Poll and react accordingly.
My question to you is which one works better? I have a .577 3" that weighs 10.5 lbs and kick the snot out of me. I have been mulling over the addition of a couple of lbs of lead or two mercury reducers that tolal 26 ounces. This would bring the weight in line with the old English optimum. Do you have a preferance?
I'd also like to comment on the 600OK being loaded down to 600NE ballistics. I have shot an 11 pound 600, twice, once each on different days and that is no picnic. The 600NE needs to weigh 14-16 pounds to be managable. Lest you think I can't handle recoil I have shot my 8 bore with and 11 Dram Load, 1150grain bullet at 1450fps as many as 20 times in an afternoon and not been bothered. A 600NE at 11 pounds is a killer.

GrandpasezMickey--I have no preference for a regular amount of weight added, like 2-3 lbs.The recoil reducers work
if there is 2-3 of them.I use lead on my wildcats as it is no cost(have lots of it)and I put 6 lbs in butt of my 510
soon to be 550 HE.Made it with a heavy barrel weigh 16 lbs.Getting that much in the butt can't be done with reducers, I don't think. And you right about the weight.Folks shouldn't build the 600 OK too light.Needs 14 lbs...Ed.
