what caliber to rebuild TGR-S in?
I have traded into a Sako TGR-S in 30-378 and would like to use the action as a base for some big silly round. Well, maybe not a silly as an overbore 30 cal...
I am thinking 470 Mbogo or 500 A2. I found a wholeseller who has Norma 416 rigby cases on closeout at 100 for $104 and that makes it quite a bit cheaper then the big Weatherby, normally the cheapest of the big cases. If I buy a couple hundred they ought to last me.
I already have a Winchester 70 in 458 Lott and a 1917 action that will eventually be a 404 Jeffery so I am looking at .475 or bigger. I will end up fabricating custom bottom metal, probably a dropped blind magazine with 4 or 5 rounds.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions or experiences with this rifle.

If you dont want to change the bolt there is not much to choose from except the 470Mbogo for the rigby cartridge. If you go belted there are the 500A2 and the other based on the same case.

You should allso consider the 338 Lapua for this rifle.

I guess some will say that for a DG rifle a Sako will not suffice because of the feeding. Well I think a Sako will do as long as you don't reload upside down [Wink]

Jason I don't have any advice on calibre but wanted to ask a question about the TRg-s- total weight?

Thanks
Karl.

The manual lists it as 3.7kg. I am not sure if that is loaded or unloaded, I will check when I get a chance, I don't have a scale here at home.
