The simple answer, based upon the words written here and elsewhere by people who have spent their lives hunting all African game, is "YES".

I used mine for all of my Plains Game and my PH said "that is just about perfect" for Cape buffalo and elephant.

You will certainly get many responses from people with opinions about what might be better but the short answer to the question asked is again, "Yes".

A 400gr bullet at 2,400 fps from a 416 will out-penetrate just about all of the big rounds. The larger rounds may create more "energy", but on the largest game, the Elephant, a killing brain shot is more about penetration than energy.

PS: And please don't ask why I have a 600 OK and a 700 AHR !!

The 416 does A-ok on anything walking. Not sure on pterodactyls.

And you won't feel beat up like when your shooting a fully charged 458 Lott.

I think that everybody values the safety.
It is talked for Russians:
"perebzdet better than nedobzdet",-sense is such it is better to do very little more than a bit less than.

I would say that the 416 shooting a solid 400gr
could kill any thing.

And if you want some range for antelope, you can load a pair of 350 TSX and 350 banded solids for allaound everything. The 350 flatnose solid will penetrate about anything and only needs the 400 grain flatNose solid for a little more reliatbility on rear-end elephant shots.
