Heyyy.
I've shot several scandinavian mooses with my 416 Taylor now, and must say I love that caliber.
I have used 340grs. Woodleigh bullets all the time, and have loaded it down to approx. 2300f/s. and have got myself a nice "meat-getter".
The last moose I shot (On last monday), was the first animal I've not shot right throught. I hit it a bit angled backworths just behind the ribs, the bullet broke the shoulder on it's way out and the bullet was lying against the skin. 25,5" diameter, and 98% weight left in it.
For me, this is perfect!!
You should have seen the shock, when the bullet hit!!!
It was a rainy day, and the moose was wet. There was a tremenbous cloud of water aroud the whole body on the animal. I belive it was pretty dry after the shot.

Just had to share this with you.

Arild,

The 416 Taylor may be overkill on moose, but the they don't run off either.

I am anxiously awaiting my first 416 Taylor.

Congratulations on your hunt.

Hey Arild,
I guess you have tasted a bit to muuch of that yellow snow.

You know as well as me that EVERYTHING larger than a 6,5x55 Swe is WAY to much ooomph for any moose we will ever encounter.

And that Woodleigh's are piece of junk bullet not worthy mentioning for animals as tough as a Norwegian moose.

Thanks for the post and congrats. PERFECT timing. I just got a 416 Taylor a few weeks ago and I had completely forgotten about this bullet. Will give it a try.

460Wby,

That is pretty much my experience with the 340 gr Woodleigh. Excellent bullet if velocities are held below ~ 2800 fps. Took an elk and a couple whitetail deer with them.

Hey Sauerkraut!!(Sauer 148)
The 6,5x55 scan. is for people who really dont handle any rifle over 22LR, but absolutly have to join a moosehunt.

Get yourself a real gun, boy, and stop that moose right in is't track.

Would you people believe that these two fine gentlemen has a Norwegain forum dedicated to the discussion of the pro's and cons of the 6.5x55.... www.sluttstykke.com and STILL they need to contaminate this forum with their endless 6.5 brawl??? he he, thanks for the rapport Arild, I have some 500 grain Woodleighs and will try them out in my 458win (soon Lott).
