Loads for fireforming using cast bullets for 416 Taylor.
Hi.
Does anybody have some tips for some loads for 360grs. cast bullets?
I'll be happy for everything, but I'd love some loads for Vithavouri, or Norma powders.

I have no direct experience, but using Quickload it looks like a full case (81 grains) of Norma 204 gets you to 2300 fps at 38,000 PSI. That is a good maximum velocity to try for, until you learn how well your rifle and bullets match. The slower powder also often gives the best performance.

MAX LOADS: 78gr. of Norma 203B (whatever that is?) would get you to 2560 fps in a 24 inch barrel. 84.6 gr VV N550 gets you 2559 fps.

I made a lot of assumptions as to COL 3.375, Barrel 24 inches, and bullet length 1.09 inches to get these results. Absolute max pressure was limited to a safe and sane 55,800 PSI.

Don't know about the taylor, but I use 400 gr Hornadys behind 55 grs of XMP-5744 as a fire-forming plinking load in the 416 Rigby. It's not fast about 1800 fps but blows out those big cases using relatively cheap bullets and is extremely accurate.-Rob

Oh -I misread your post. If you are using the Hoch 350 gr GS bullet, again use 50- 55 grs of XMP5744. Cast the bullet from pure Linotype alloy and install the GS immediately. Don't wait or you will be sorry! Wait a day or so for the bullets to harden fully and use SPG lube. Shoots one hole groups at 100 yrds with very mild recoil.
