I have been loading 33 grains of IMR 4198 with the .446 bullets from Buffalo Arms (I think they are cast from the RCBS mold and are about 380 grains). This load of powder is from the latest edition of "Cartidges of the World", range is from 32-35 grains. No dacron or filler of any sort.

I don't have problems with having to raise elevation. With the old CIL loads I had, the rifle was dead on at 200 yards using the battle site. This one seems about the same.

Fred B, Bell makes brass for this round as does Bertram. Midway sells both. I use Bell, the Bertram I looked at didn't do much for me. Dies are available from most makers. I use Lee, at around $20 for the set they work just fine for what I'm doin'. These rifles are really fun shooters!

I bought Bertram brass from Midway. Frankly, it's not the best brass around. I wish someone like Lapua would make a run of it. But, it suffices...

Yeah, you're right, it's .446, not .443. If I remember correctly (don't have my load book in front of me) I load 31grs of 4198. My barrel had been chopped (so no front sight at all!) and a peep sight installed in the rear, so I don't have any experience with orginal sights.

Thanks, I checked Numrich and they had 4 of the rear sight springs in so I bought one.

The original sights are finely made, but the front blade is pretty fine. Some sort of peep sight would be nice, but not at the expense chopping the barrel!

I think they made a carbine version of this rifle, which is what I would REALLY like to have. With smokeless powder, there isn't any need for the long barrel.

It would be like a 45-70 bolt action carbine!
