WinkDeformed brass mystery
When I vigourously work the bolt on my Model 70 Classic Express in .375 H&H, I find my expended cases are deformed at the neck. The deformation is a squeeze of the neck at the case mouth. Sometimes the deformation is sufficient enough to require that I open up the neck with a plastic pen or other tool to be able allow the sizer die to descend. Obviously, it doesn't happen if I open the bolt relatively slowly and when I work the bolt at normal speeds I can't get an observor to see anything out of the ordinary. Any theories?

jeffeossomark a piece of brass, as the TOP (with a pen to index) and insert, JERK the bolt handle and see were it hits... my bet is it's hitting the top right rear of the front ring on a FAST pull

Zero DriftNormal situation. The extractor will cause the case to slap the side of the action during ejection. No big deal...

Chuck NelsonZero Drift is right, ASS CLOWN is an idiot, and if you look at the rear bridge you'll see brass marks where the case neck smacks it on the way out.

AtkinsonA good gunsmith can change the angle of the extractor a tad and fix the problem...It shouldn't be happening in a properly tuned up rifle.

ASS_CLOWNChuck,
Why do you say I am an idiot? I was agreeing with ZD, but hey the fun is reading all the expert opinions of "what is wrong" with the rifle.
Ray,
????? Change the extractor angle??? That makes very little sense to me, would you mind enlightening me, please.
