Overkill,
They are out there of sorts. A $50000 AUD single shot 4 bore was available here a few years ago. blackpowder or smokeless load(I'm pretty sure) for 2000grain conical@1250fps.

And I think there is at least one enlish firm making shotshells up to and including the 4 guage, and maybe the 2 ga.
This is probably for a punt gun.

You are probably thinking of a specially made rifled bore gun that can handle smokless powders though?
Even at old nitro pressures, 14-15 tons say,in a 4 bore, you would need a firearm weighing 40lbs.
Any faster and you might as well be firing a 20mm.

John Saunders of Century Arms in Melbourne built a pair of single shot 4 Bores that were smokless and Marcel Thys and Sons has built at least two 4 Bore Doubles that are smokeless. Don't know the loads.

Years ago... when John Saunders, made I believe his first 4 bore to sell, I handled it in Reno at SCI... big... even as 4 bores go, it had a shotgun brl to go along with it and believe it was Rewa reproduction. The only thing I didnt like about it was that it was a top lever... guns that large should be a bottom IMO.
I swear that must have been one of my first SCI shows and couldnt be much over the age to drive.
God I have a good memory... But still just about as dumb [Big Grin]
ill dig through my SCI stacks... I know he gave me a brochure on it.
Giles Whittome did or still does make a very serious 2-4-8 bore "henry harpoon" FALLING BLOCK!! It is a very serious gun, I *think* it is a round ball rifle... as in the rate of twist is 1-100 or so but I could be wrong, and that could be changed.

There is also a guy in Canada that built a 4 Bore Double from scratch. He was from Whithorse but moved to the Kootnays I believe. I saw a video he did on it, including a trip to Zim. Quite a feat I think.

The maker I was thinking of is the same as mentioned by Mickey and Smallfry.

Just realised a gunsmith near me can make one also. He made a double 4 bore for a dentist going to Africa years ago.
