Venture South577 Nitro - 650 gr FN Solids
Hi Guys
I have put down a deposit on a new .577 Nitro Express double.
I am interested in your experiences with either Barnes, GS custom or any other drive band bullets shooting light for caliber Flat Nose solids out of the 577.
I shoot 450gr FN solids out of my 458 and am very happy with them and was thinking of doing the same with my 577.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Ian

BiebsIan, what did you get? The 577 is awesome! Is it an older build, perhaps made for the 650gr "Jungle" load?

505EDI have always heard, out of a full 750-100 gun that most 650 will regulate fine with a little work..
This might be interesting reading...

Venture SouthI have contracted Ralph Badenhorst to build me a custom gun.
His work is good and they are holding up well in the field.
I like the Heym, but current exchange rates and the price of their Sidelock puts it way out of range.
I also like the KGun, but they only go up to 500 nitro and even with their PH discount it was still going to be a heft price tag.
Going with Ralph will also allow me to build it light enough to carry easily. I dont mind recoil and all of the other 577s that I handled were heavy as lead with too much weight forward. Most of them kick like a 500 by the time they are weighted down. I would rather have it kick like a mule and carry light as it spends most of its time being taken for long walks that end in my client killing his game.
Ralph can build on more English lines and ha agreed to try and get as close to 12lbs as possible, although it will not be easy due to barrel contours etc.
I am going to make a plain PH model to start with and then add some engraving in due course to commemorate the animals that we take with the rifle.
Now I just have to decide what to regulate with as I dont want to battle later with regulating etc. I have 100% faith in my GS customs, but have also considered that something more mainstream like Barnes may be easier for me to get reliably in the long run.
Anyway, its safe to say that I want maximum penetration out of what I choose.
Very exciting, as its been something I have been wanting for a long time.
How have you guys found penetration so far?

Thanks for the link. Intersting, info.
I see a lot of guys very happy with the Noncons
Only concern would be long term availability.
What is your thought on this?

Pretty much anyone with quality screw machines and talent can make solids. CEB's are pretty damn popular but I bet if their machine shop went away someone would step up.
My buddy who owns a smallish machine shop (Runs about 12 screw machines) says they would be a breeze to make for me. I would never have let him copy them unless CEB went out of business though. I think they are priced well through them and they have been really accommodating for making a few changes I have requested. Just need to order 250 of what ever you want custom.
