.375 300 gr Hornady RN Expand quicker than Hornady 270 sp?
Folks,

I am just wondering if the 300 gr Hornady RN would be a quicker expanding bullet for hogs possibly feral horses than the 270 gr Hornady SP out of my .375??

PC,
I haven't used either of those on game. BUT, if I look at teh bullets over and under those, the .416 and .358... I'll tell you what I think...

the .416 is build like a brick shit house, compared to other hornady softs, but it's STILL just a very conventional bullet. I have yet to recover one ( [Big Grin] ) and I am pretty tickled about that, but when I've taken 2 pigs AT ONCE(first one through the shoulder) the ENTRY wound on the other was like a 3" pipe, and the EXIT on the first was a split hide...

The 358 250 gr rn BLOWS UP nearly like a BT, at 2400fps. I get exit wounds, but I also get fragments... I don't use this bullet any more

Actually, I wrote S.Hornady regarding this, and told him that I disliked the .375 300rn, as it was MUCH more like the .358 than the .416 in construction, "hardness" and shape. I typically cut bullets up and measure/looks at/FEEL them... The 300H has the same jacket thickness as a speer 235, and the speer jacket was much harder to cut.. This is ALL conjector, but I told Steve this. He replied that the 300/375 has take many african game, but, yeah, it is a conventional bullet.

For plinking, I think I am going to stay with the H 225 Spirepoint 375, that was built for 2800-3000 frps muzzle vel... it's holding together well, and my exit wounds, while larger than an X bullet or solid, are NOT tunnels in flesh.

So jeffeo you think that for pigs the .375 300 gr Hornady RN might actually open up a little quicker than the 270 gr sp ?? I think that if it expands quicker it may be the better choice for the undersized game I will be hunting with my .375 particularly when I do not want to shoot the lighter bullets.
