Do you use your Big Bore on deer and similar?

Or do you only use it for large game and targets such as paper, rocks and tins of water etc.?

If don't use your big bore on deer and the like, what is the reason?

...577 nitro ,450 alaskan, 45/70, 416 rigby, 416 rem, 416 taylor, 376 steyr, 375 win, 358 winnie...
these are what my group uses... for hogs, deer, varmits, buffalo, plains game, babbons....
we hunt em, shoot em, carry em (bigger guns are atleast 10.75#) and hunt hogs about 1x a month.

I haven't as of yet but only because I haven't had it that long, but will remedy this in about 2 months!! I see no reason at all not to, I have used my 338 for about 5 years with total success, little meat damage and the uptimate result is an increased comfort level with the rifle (also used it on groundhogs). The way I see it is I am shooting a pre-expanded 30 cal and there should be no meat damage at all. Bottom line you can't kill something too dead and it is much better practice than paper punching!!! gabe

I've shot a deer with my 130yr old .577 Snider and hunted in 3 states with my BMG.

Does that countWink

I'll be carrying my .577 T-Rex this fall (my .416 Rigby just seems so small).

BMG,

I would like to be there if you shoot at a deer with the 577 Ty out of a tree stand!

Make sure to lay some mattresses underneath.

Did you fire in one state, and hit the target two states over [Big Grin]

I assure you my big bores will kill coyotes, deer, and even jack rabbits! I have used every double rifle I have ever owned to shoot almost everything I hunt! One of my favorite things is to jump shoot rabbits with my heavy stopping rifles! This is the best practice for instinctive shooting! I shot a 5x5 Elk with a 577NE 3" double rifle, at the range of 35 yds. A friend called it in, and when the 750 gr bullet hit the shoulder, the bull went down so fast, that because of the recoil, I did not see it drop, and thought I'd missed. My friend had never seen an elk hit by anything bigger than a 338 Win Mag, and simply could not believe how fast that elk hit the deck! [Cool]

I really have no choice but to shoot our Aussie game Mike as we have no elephant etc. [Big Grin]

I do want to go camel and donkey shooting however.

I use my 375 Ackley Imp. on deer. I use my regular African loading, and I can take a shot from any angle, and there isn't any wasted meat. The majority of the shots presented here in my neck of the woods is under 75 yards. The last buck I shot was only 15 yards away, and my bullet went through a 4 inch diameter pine tree, and hit the deer in the neck-instant kill. [Smile]

I use my 375 H&H for everything. I have numerous smaller caliber rifles suitable for deer but I like and trust my 375 above all.

N E 450 No2
When I first got my 450 No2 and my 450/400 3 1/4 I was on a turkey lease that was over run with skunks and armadillos. Every weekend during the season I would shoot 60 rounds from each double while hunting them [solids for the armadillo of course [Big Grin] ]. I have taken deer, wild pigs, coyotes, raccoons, a squirrel, turtles, 2 caribou, and black bear with them. my doubles are my favorite hunting rifles. PS a skunk is the only animal you stalk with the wind at your back! [Eek!]

I have several 45/70s,a 45/120 3 1/4 inch,a 378 Weatherby Magnum, and a 458 Winchester Magnum, all of which have or will have gone after deer and black bear.Have only killed game with the 45/70s though-plan on trying to change that. [Big Grin]

It may not be a big bore, but I use a 338WM for varmint hunting ( they sure think it's a big bore) I have a 50 cal. black powder rifle I use all the time for rabbit hunting and a friend that goes with me brings his .58cal. enfield. Just slow the bullet down and no serious meat loss. My 416 Taylor has yet to draw any blood, but a 44mag does wonderes on a porcupine.

I bought my 416 Rigby last August and used it for whitetail up here. I'm going out this weekend for black bear and will take either it or my 444 Marlin. I loaded up some 400 gr. barnes softs, and they shoot really well.
