S202 Sauer Hatari vs. Mauser Safari
I've been toying with the idea of a rifle set up with interchangeable barrels. I know they are a little different, in that the S202 Hatari is a true take down where the Mauser is not. I've handled both of these rifles at SCI, but was wondering if anyone has first hand experience, and could comment on function, reliability, etc. Thanks. Chip.
Oh..... just to clarify.....I meant the Mauser M03.....not the M98.

I have owned a M03 and have handeled and shot the Hatari.

The M03 can handel alot more calibers- and takes down (I should say takedown like) and shoots well (blaser with a turnbolt). It is also alot less expensive to change calibers. I know guys that have 4 or 5 barrels for there M03. Very versatile.

Sauer hatari is a true takedown. It is a heavy system and comes in a limited calibers--but a 375 and 458 lott what more do you need. Get it set up with EAW swing mounts and it would be the nuts!

I'd have to say it was a toss up-- I went with the M03 because I was use to the Blaser system-- with the Sauer system if you wanted to go to a 30-06 or a 270 you would have to buy a new fore-end, bolt, and mag. and that can get expensive!

I have 2 M03 rifles a 458 Lott PH and a Standard 375 . Both rifle are accurate and reliable i had some feeding issues with the 458 lott which were resolved by Mauser.

I own a Mauser M03. Great system in my opine.
I have three barrels, 404 Jeffery, 375 H&H, and a match grade 308 Win. All three barrels shot a whole lot better than I can. Return to zero each time is great. Only drawback is you have to use Mauser OEM.

I will continue to add to my barrel inventory.

The only bolt guns I own now are Sauer 202's. I have one with interchangeable barrels in .300WM and .375H&H. The other is in .270 and I may add the 6.5x55 or something else later. I chose the Sauer 202 because it's the fastest and slickest action on the market, and reliable.

I was never crazy about the stock designs on the Sauers until I started using them, now I really like the raised comb. Even the iron sights on the .375 are set up perfect for the stock. I also like the safety much better on the Sauer than the cocking lever on the Mauser.

The Sauer Hatari has a more conventional type English looking stock and fits me nice as well. Not sure I could afford one however in a 2 barrel set. I'd rather put that much money toward another DR.

But it's all personal preference. Both are expensive, but I feel the used value priced Sauers are like getting a custom rifle for half price.

I want to thank you all for your input. I'm leaning towards the Hatari in .300 Win. Mag. and .458 Lott. If I "pull the trigger"....I'll post pictures. Thanks again. Chip.
