375 Acly loads??
Looking for info that will lead me to loads for the 375 H&H Ackley 40 degree improved. Trying to help a freind get the added oomph his Ackley chambering can furnish. He has been shooting factory H&H for years in it and likes the gun but when I told him we could load for it he got all excited. We scored dies on Ebay now we have to come up with some recepies to make it smoke! He is wanting to shoot Grand Slams in 275 or 300. Thanks!

I don't have my Ackley book with me but, if your in possession of .375 Weatherby data, it's pretty much interchangeable. Just start 10% low and work up.

I'm home now and this is what Ackley lists in his Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders.

I sure hope you don't misunderstand this data.....it's clearly a misunderstanding and the first piece of data with the 4198 at over 3,000'/sec is not to be trusted at all.....I'll see if I can find a link to some .375 weatherby data to serve as starter loads. Try this to start.

I strongly suspect this is a dangerous load and way beyond that!!!

Can someone else confirm this?

400-600 gr 375 bullets???????????? Loadtech only lists the heavy 375s as 300 & 350. Those powder charges are 20-37 grs higher than anything listed for the 375 AI or 375Wby. Those loads would be starting loads for 300gr bullets in the 378Wby which has 30grs more capacity.

Loadtech won't allow me to reach 375Wby loads Vapodog linked to either. Most of the loads were about 4-5 grs lower. But those are calculated limites.

Looked up some of my notes from way back.
260 Nosler 90 grs. IMR 4350-3000 fps
270 Horn. 90 grs. IMR 4831-2900 fps
300 Nosl. 87 grs. IMR 4350-2810 fps
These are out of a 22" Sako w/ stainless Douglas. As always start below and work up you may not have the Sako factor working for you.

That data shouldn't be on the site. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Use Hodgdon's 375 Weatherby data, with starting loads.

Sorry MTM. I was referring to the previous list.

I have deleted the post containing the apparently incorrect data, and edited out the quoted data in your posts.

Thanks George.....I suspect an error in copy/paste but the loads listed were clearly not for the .375 caliber.

Wow healthy loads.

Every Manual and software I have stops below those loads.

Sorry guys, nobody was giveing him data. These were my loads from many years ago , notes say case life good. Take with a grain of salt or ignore. Most imp. or WBY data is light, once you straighten out the case it goes way faster. Articles from way back have Bob Hagles stock 375 load at 84 grs. IMR 4350. Just what I shot in my gun and not gosple by any means.

MTM,

Like I said I have no first had experience with the 375AI or 375WBY. For the 260-270gr most stop at about 84grs of IMR 4350. However if the rifle is a 375 WBY and has the long throat and bullet can be seated longer than 3.6 I could see how several more grains of powder could be added. The 4831 loads stops at 105% capacity so again longer COL case capacity etc could all allow higher loads than Loadtech shows me. The fact that they worked for you trumps software predictions.

Just thinking about the .416 Rem. It's no problem to go 2900 with a 300 gr. The Ackly is basically the same case w/smaller hole so the speed should be about right. As always though start well below and watch and measure for pressure . Just out of curiousity, if you have the time what does Loadtech show for a max charge of 7828 and a 300 gr in the 378WBY.

Start off with 89 grns of reloader 19 then work up, watching for pressure signs.
I mean for 260-270grn bullets

Can't help you. The major complaint I have about Loadtech is you can't force a powder. It chooses what it feels is best. It won't choose 7828. Someone with QL should be able to help you.

I am still trying to get around to loading for this Ackley.
Does any one have the Hodgdons info? Looks like the 285 Grand Slams are going to be the choice.
