GeorgeSI've had game we hadn't spotted jump out of their hiding places as soon as we stepped ten feet off the track.
You never know when a beastie will appear, so I always have a round in the chamber when on foot.
George
I voted "always chambered" by the way!

CanuckI need a "depends" option.
I don't always do either option.
I think being on foot to carry the weapon is fed (cartridge in chamber), but I also think the gun in the vehicle has to go no rounds in chamber or in the storage tank or charger. It does not take anything to feed the gun and get off the vehicle.
Sincerely,
Oscar.

Seriously...just put the depends ones into the unloaded vote. It is still gonna be a landslide!

if it's out of the guncase, it's loaded.

Antelope SniperSo fishguts, should I just leave a round in the chamber all the time, regardless of what I'm doing?? By your logic should I keep them all loaded with a round in the chamber while they are in the safe?

mauser93Idaho, sir, you again fail to go far enough. Fishguts post belongs on 24 Hour. Far too sensible for AR.
LET'S TALK ABOUT HUNTING ETHICS SOME MORE!

LMAO. No I dont carry a hot chamber while going through the woods. We have antler restrictions, cant shoot bears with cubs, etc. you always have time to chamber a round.
Now maybe if I did alot of deer hunting up here, I may change my tune.
A lesson in irony
The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.
Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."
Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Knowing how to handle a weapon safely includes knowing when it is best to have the chamber unloaded: i.e crossing barriers such as fences or creeks, anytime you do not have 100% muzzle control, etc.

The first rule of gun safety is (drum roll): all guns are ALWAYS loaded even when they are not.
Can't say as I can remember ever hunting with anyone who didn't have a loaded chamber in the field. This does exclude bow hunters, never knew of of those that walked around with an arrow nocked all the timev(except when on a stalk).

RobgunbuilderI carry a loaded Glock in the car all the time. Do you think that evil weapon will one day decide on its own to go off? Maybe I should carry it without a round in the chamber. I should have plenty of time in any real world car-jacking to rack one in. Let me think a second! Nah! I'll repeat myself once again. Memorize this! A unloaded gun is a useless tool! The best "safety" in the world is keeping your finger off the trigger till you need to use the gun!-Rob

Outlaw Josie Whales. Not quite the exact words more like: "Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?" If this is the quote you refer to?

catosilvajeRound in safety on finger off. Best Eastwood flic of them all bar none.
Can you repeat the

question?
Depends on circumstance, if by myself I have no problem loading up. On the other hand if I'am with a guide I'am content to folow his his preferance, which is usally no shell in chamber untll really close to shooting. There is a definte level of security with an empty chamber when in close quarters with someone that is appreciated. Scared to death of any type of accident where someone could be shot. This is for fun right.
