Bill/OregonRuger only shows the .416 in the Alaskan
I just checked the Ruger Web site and the only .416 Ruger they show is the Alaskan. Didn't they make this rifle in the African model? That Alaskan is butt-ugly, if practical.

PoppaWI think they were trying the 416 at first in the african but had stock issues. Not sure if any made it out into public hands. I wanted one in the blacked out Alaskan, but they never made that either.

JCS271No africans at this point but it is also available in the No.1 single shot. Maybe soon though now that they are marketing the african with a laminate wood stock, that should solve their splitting issues.

Bill/OregonWell, JCS, we know what the consensus is on single shots for DG, don't we?

AtkinsonI have a African in a .338, I love it...As a stock maker I see no reason why a .416 would cause problems in the Ruger 77 African, that makes no since at all...It is available in the .375 Ruger, so the .416 is very doable..Like you I am on standby and have been told it may come about. I will never own one in the Alaskan it is butt ugly.
I suspect the Ruger dream staff decided the recoil would be offensive in the African to all of Americas panty waists, bean counters are a disgusting bunch with little if any experience in the field for the most part, which is ridiculas. Anyway its a fairly heavy gun to start with or at least my 338 is. Rumor has it the .416 African is under consideration. email them.
