army aviator300gr Failsafes in 376 Steyr
Any one loaded 300gr Failsafes in 376 Steyr. Maybe a little long for my 1999Montana Arms with 3.125" magazine. Anyone loaded it, what powder, and what were the results? I know Barnes loaded some 300gr Barnes x and they are even longer and I think they were fired in an actual Steyr. I found the Failsafes on sale but they are not a good buy if they don't work. How about a little help here as they go off sale on 20 Dec.

nordrsetaSlingster has done some work with the 300 gr bullets (Hornady roundnose softs IIRC) in his Steyr 376 Scout Rifle which has a shortish magazine box. Might want to search for his posts on the subject. As for the 300 gr Failsafes, if a fella thought he might ever want to try them he ought to buy them up now as they have been discontinued.

lawndartI think you will find that the 270 grain FailSafe is the perfect matchh for that cartridge, over a full load of BLC-2.
The 300 grain FailSafe is perfect for the 375 Weatherby, over a large scoop of H-4350.

Rick RI've loaded the Hornady 300gr round nose and fmj to 2,450 fps in my 24" barrelled .376 VZ24, but I think Lawndart's in the right frame of mind that for the .376 the 270gr bullet weight is better for the pointy monometal (or long for weight Failsafe) bullets.

Mike Smith61.4 grains of IMR4895 for 300grn bullets
Lawndart is correct in that 270grn is better in long for weight bullets. You also might want to try 250grn bullets, A frames, partitions or whatever. I am finding they work very well. In fact they have become my favorite as of late.
