Big Bore scope
I want to have a second scope for my 404 Jeffery. I already have the Leupold 1.5-5X20mm scope on it, but I would like a 1-6 power with an illuminated reticle as a second scope. Does anyone have any experience with the new Leupold VX6 line, such as the 1-6X24mm? Next question, of the reticle options I like either the German #4 or the post circle dot. Any opinions on the reticle options for this scope? Assume I will be shooting at Cape Buffalo.

I would consider replacing the first scope with the Nikon Slughunter 1.6-5x32. It will have more light, is apparently stronger than the Leuppie, and has great glass (92% transmission). The price is irrelevant, but its in the consumer's favor.
Oh yea, it has 5-inches of eye-relief throughout the power settings!

Wink, I like the German #4 but I would want a larger field of view and light transmission in a 30mm tube in a 1.5/6X 42mm would be great. That red dot in early morning and late in the day is in my opinion the way to ge.

Take a look at the new Zeiss 30MM Duralyte scopes that were just introduced. They are in the Conquest line. A 2.5x8 illuminated reticle can be had for about $1K. I was really impressed with it after looking it over. Camera Land has some demos for $850 which is a smokin deal!

Check out the new Sightron SIII 1-7x24 with illuminated reticle and 4-5 inch eye relief. It has a 30 mm tube.

Wink, I have the Leupold VX-7 1.5-6x24mm scope, with German No. 4 reticle, on my .416 Rem., and I love it. Pretty much ideal as an all around African rifle.

Leupold doesn't list that on their site anymore. One question becomes eye-relief at all powers.

I put a VX6 1-6x24 on my 450 Dakota. I love it....

The field of view on 1x is amazing. The front sight can be seen in full focus when looking down the scope. At the rifle range, I can see 15 of the 16 100 yard target positions from the line.

So far it has survived 60+ shots from the rifle with no signs of damage.

Mine is not illuminated. I had the free CDS dial created for the CEB NonCon for kicks and it hits the bull at 50, 100 and 200 yards too (have not tested the 300 yard setting).

Everyone who shoulders this rifle is amazed by the clarity and the field of view

How good is the Leupold VX6 1-6x in low light?

Not sure how to measure that, but it is very bright and clear in my opinion. It is much brighter and clearer than the old VX3 1.5-5 that I replaced on this rifle.

eyerelief is 3.8", which is great for 5000 ft lbs and under. It can work for more, too, but you need to know how to hold on and rock with the recoil, keeping the head moving back. I've had friends cut their eyebrows on 3.8" and a little mistake.

I have ordered the 1-6 X 24mm Leupold with the 30mm tube and illuminated reticle. When I get it I'll let you know what I think of it.
